Boise State to get rid of their Blue turf

Boise State is finally changing the blue turf on their football field.

The blue turf is not being replaced because it is an eye sore; it is being replaced because of a reflective glare that has bothered fans for the past two seasons.

According to Athletic director Gene Bleymaier, there are light-reflecting fibers in the current blue artificial field that are causing problems for people watching the game both in person and on television.

Bleymaier says FieldTurf has offered to fix the problem and is doing without any cots to the school. For all of you football traditionalists that are jumping for joy that Boise State is finally changing that ugly blue turf to a proper green turf, stop jumping, and sit back down.

They are changing the current blue turf with a different blue turf. Yes, the Boise State turf will still be blue.

Because FieldTurf is going to fix the problem for free, the school did not estimate the cost of the project.

The school says the work on the new field will begin June 21 and should be completed by July 30. Team practices begin on Aug. 6.

After going undefeated last season, Boise State has high expectations for the upcoming season.

How long until Eastern Washington realizes the same thing, and decides it is better to just go with green

So they ARE NOT getting rid of the blue - just replacing it.

No, they'll just make sure the red turf doesn't have reflective fibers.

So then the field will be transparent...

...or a black hole. :D

they've mastered bending the time-space continuum via quantum physics.

most offensive lines try to open holes for runningbacks to go through. these guys open wormholes.
they'll be unstoppable.

Clenz if it's any consolation I got what you were doing there. It wasn't that funny until dback and ASUM got on ya about it but it did make me chuckle pretty good then. :thumb:

You didn't get any of the bites you were looking for though otherwise it may have been pretty good.

Molecular structure manipulation would be more cost effective.

I prefer Iowagon. Or it might be spelled Iowagen. Not sure.

Good decision. The blue turf is fine, but that glare was just awful. Plenty of fake turfs have that problem - not just Boise - plenty of them have a "sheen" to them in night games. If they can get rid of that, then more power to them.

You just don't understand because you're not from the Dangerously Awesome Country of Iowa. Remember, foreigners don't think like us Americans.

Giants Stadium had that problem for years. It looked like the old Vet Astroturf..

I went to a HS state championship night game at DelState's stadium a couple of years ago and the glare was bothersome. There was some drizzle that evening, which I think exacerbated the problem. Here's hoping night games at The Tub on the new FieldTurf do not have that issue. GoHens is tough enough to read as it is. Could you imagine the blue-hairs complaining about glare from artificial turf?

I'm sure there will be plenty to complain about from that bunch. I can't even go there anymore. Life is too short and I enjoy Hen games too much to let them drag me down.

The negative nellies are out in force over there. One guy wrote 3 or 4 words on the UD golfer who won the individual CAA title this past weekend. And then railed on for a full paragraph on how awful the entire team finished. That glass was definitely half empty, although I'm sure that guy will argue that it was never even full to begin with, assuming he could even see the glass.
