The move got the attention of President Barack Obama, who made reference to the jerseys Wednesday in a Cinco de Mayo celebration at the White House. But it also got the attention of some irate fans - there is substantial public support for the law in Arizona - and conservative radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh, who called the move sad and shortsighted.
One outraged fan told The Arizona Republic that she shredded her four lower-level tickets to Wednesday's game against the San Antonio Spurs in protest. Meanwhile, 84 letters to the editor were sent to The Republic on Wednesday, 79 opposed to Sarver's decision."I'm very unhappy, and I don't think they should get involved," said Roger Gibbard, who lives outside Queen Creek and has been a Suns fan since 1981.
Whether you agree with the law or not, people use sports and their sports teams as an ESCAPE from all the other crap going on in our lives....we don't need the sports teams to start "crossing the streams".

Sarver's decision clearly created a firestorm. By midday Wednesday, he no longer wanted to talk about it. He also declined to answer questions about whether the decision could hurt the team financially.
"I'm not going to go there," he said. "I don't have any more public comments."
sounds like Sarver realizes he fuckin' stepped in some shit now!!
Dumbass...

The thing that seems funny to me is the timing. This had to be approved by the league and haven't they done this before as a Cinco De Mayo thing? This was originally a CDM thing that is now being used as a political message. Were the Suns planning on doing this before the hub bub over the law broke? It would not have made much of a difference in any other year other than this one.

Great move by Sarver, IMHO.
He made sure that there is no way that Stern would have the refs give the game to the Spurs, like he would normally do.
Game 2 victory, thanks to LOS SUNS jerseys!!

Yeah. It was the jerseys.
Los Suns just alienated (ironic, no?) about 70% of their fan base. I hope Sarver suffers monumentally from this fucking brain fart of his.

Well, Sarver is an idiot. With it being Cinco de Mayo, and with a significant latino population it would have been very easy to just say they were wearing the jerseys to honor Cinco de Mayo...but no, he had to go and make it a fucking POLITICAL statement and he's getting shit on from all corners now.
Dumbass U of A grad.

How do you figure 70% of the fan base? Place was still sold out.
Latest polls show support for measure is dropping like a rock. Down to 52% support, and falling.

All he did was change 'The' to 'Los'. Wouldn't 'Los Soles' be a little more appropriate?

My son and wife were having that discussion last night. Again, just proves what an idiot Sarver is.

You'd be opening yourself up for Lost Soles headlines if the team played listlessly.

That clip never gets old. Why do all the really good comics start doing speedballs?

That's the thing I don't get. If you're a smart businessman you would have to realize that 1/2 your customers are for it and 1/2 against so why you would make a statement of any kind supporting one side or the other and alienating 1/2 doesn't make a bit of sense.

Exactly. This world would be a lot better place if smart folks like you and me were running it.
