IWFL Divisional Playoffs

Post by SuperHornet »

Unfortunately, outside of one game tonight, the trend of blowouts in the IWFL continued during the first round of the playoffs. And this involved teams who by record SHOULD have put on a good game. I guess that's why the games are actually played....

In Eastern Conference Tier I play, the undefeated Boston Militia improved to 9-0 with a 26-6 win over the visiting New York Sharks (now 7-2), and the DC Divas (6-3) proved the correctness of the weird Massey Rating shift of this game to their place by taking out the Atlanta Xplosion (7-2) 35-7.

In Western Conference Tier I play, the Dallas Diamonds (8-1) defeated the Chicago Force (7-2) in the only decent game of the night 27-20. The undefeated Sacramento Sirens (9-0) beat the upstart SoCal Scorpions of San Diego 60-26, matching the biggest points allowed of the season for Sac. For the Sirens, however, the victory was costly, as kicker Jen Bloom broke a couple of ribs recovering a bad punt snap. (A Scorpion literally frog-splashed her and got away with it. Not surprising given that they ALSO got away with a belly-to-back suplex.)

Eastern Conference Tier II action saw the Montreal Blitz (9-0) tone down the New England Intensity (8-1) 53-14 in a battle of unbeatens and the Carolina Phoenix (9-0) emerge victorious over the Chattanooga Locomotion (4-4) 42-14.

Western Confernece Tier II games were even worse with the Wisconsin Warriors (6-3) beating the Memphis Belles (5-4) 36-6 and the Bay Area Bandits (6-3) annihilating the Modesto Maniax (1-8) 46-0.

The Tier I Conference Championships will thus feature DC @ Boston and Dallas @ Sac. In Tier II, the Conference Championships will see Carolina @ Montreal in yet annother battle of unbeatens while Wisconsin is @ Bay Area.

The Tier I Conference Champions will meet 24 JUL in Round Rock, TX for the IWFL World Championship, while the Tier II Champs will square off for the IWFL North American Championship the same day in Round Rock.
