And to be clear, I never called Jimenez a fraud... just the hype surrounding him.

One thing is clear. Pedroia has not been exposed as anything but THE MAN!

In the past 13 games Pedroia has raised his average 45 points. He is 5-5 tonight with a career high 3 homers and 5 RBI.

A tip of my cap to Dustin Pedroia. I can't stand the guy, but nobody was getting him out tonight, what an outstanding individual performance. Oh, could you guys trade Papelbon to the Dodgers, pretty please? Perhaps for Andre Ethier?

Is there another school so well represented in the MLB by superstars and rising stars as Arizona State?

Dustin Pedroia (Red Sox)
Andre Ethier (Dodgers)
Ike Davis (Mets)
Mike Leake (Reds)
Ian Kinsler (Rangers)
Colin Curtis (Yankees, just called up, went 2-3 with 3 RBI in D-Backs series)

And of course, PAST stars:

Barry Bonds
Reggie Jackson
Bob Horner
Rick Monday
Fernando Vina
Paul LoDuca
Travis Buck
Hubie Brooks
and many, many other former players.

How did you forget the immortal Danny White, a football HOFer who played 2B on the ASU baseball team?!?

AZ and UNH may well have a decent argument. You will be exposed as one of the two embarrassments of the Big Sky that you are after we smack your tails yet AGAIN this fall.

Back to the theme of the thread. Papelbon is a pussy who will choke the chicken all year. This year's Brad Lidge!

Why is it that the last couple of years, we keep talking about dominant closers who now suck? We NEVER talked about Fingers, Sutter, or Eckersley in this fashion....

I know this is a bad year to make the comparison, but I'll take Mr. Hells Bells over Papelbon any day of the week.

Trevor Hoffman.

Since SDHornet hasn't seen fit to chime in here: Trevor Hoffman, the career saves leader, mostly from his time with the Pads. He landed on a cr@ppy Milwaukee team after the idiots running the asylum in SD arbitrarily decided he was done, and now he's a blinking set-up guy.

BTW, that's not to say Papelbon sucks. I'd be more inclined to stick that tag on Rivera. But given that this thread started out as a weak satiric link to the Jimenez thread, it seems that we're at least STARTING to talk about Papelbon in this fashion, even if one cr@ppy outing does not a washed up reliever make.

You would take Hoffman any day of the week right now? If so you are an idiot.

I can count the current closers I would take over Papelbon right now on 1 finger and JoltinJoe I'm sure knows who that is. Regardless of how Papelbon pitched in the past two outings he is still an elite closer. That said TRADE THE BUM and let Bard closer. :thumb:

Papelbon never blew a save that cost his team a shot at the WS.

The greatest post season relief pitcher ever and you want to classify his career based on 1 game? You want to pick on a crappy RP that cost his team a WS? Go pick on Mitch Williams.
