IFAF Women's World Championship Thread

Team USA kicked off the Women's World Championship in Sweden this morning (Cali time) with a 63-0 spanking of Austria. While a box score is not available yet, it seems that three American QBs ran wild on the Austrian defense. This puts USA on top of Group A with 2 points. Next up for the Americans is Finland on Thursday. Austria takes on Finland on Tuesday.

Canada opened Group B action with a 12-6 win over host Sweden, a heavy underdog. Sweden next plays Germany on Tuesday, and Canada will face Germany on Thursday.

Classification games will be played on Saturday: Fifth Place, Bronze Medal, and Gold Medal. Group records will determine who plays in which classification game.

I really think we're looking at a USA-CAN Gold Medal game....

I would appreciate a translation, though. My second language was French....

"We're the red, we're the white, we're the red-white Austria".

Heard it at the Austria-Netherlands (soccer) friendly I went to in Vienna a couple of years ago. :thumb:

Sounds like a lot of fun. Those international friendlies can have an almost playoff atmosphere to them from what I've heard.

Yep, they're pretty crazy about the sport, even if the game is meaningless.

Back to business.

Stats are up for Sunday's games and the one complete so far today. Well, they're up for Sunday's CAN-SWE game and today's FIN-AUT blowout, anyway. The link to the USA-AUT game from Sunday is jacked. A pretty nice highlight video is up for USA-AUT.

Anyways, so far today, Finland has blown out Austria in Group A action 50-16. It's clear now that #4 seed Austria has not lived up to billing and will be the Group A entrant in the Fifth Place Game on Saturday 3 JUL. Germany gets their first action of the tournament later today when they take on host Sweden.

If anything's clear at this point (without seeing the USA stats), it's that nobody has a kicker. Canada and Sweden botched PATs, and nobody in the AUT-FIN game even bothered with it. Nobody's even attempted a FG so far, or so it seems. I'm hoping that USA is fixing that glaring oversight. Given two 40-yard-capable kickers on the West Coast, US head man John Konecki should have ensured that at least ONE of them was on the team. (At least the Sirens kicker is NOT.)

Word finally came out. Germany ended host Sweden's shot at a medal with a 14-0 shutout today. Sweden faces Austria Saturday for Fifth Place. Germany squares off with Canada Thursday for a chance to play for Gold.

A lot rides on the outcome of Thursday's games.

Germany's shutout of Sweden Monday catapulted them over Canada for first place in Group B based on point differential: Germany is +12, while Canada is only +6. A win for either seals the deal, there being no other pool play games, but a tie game sends Germany to the Gold Medal Game based on point differential. Canada has to win.

In Group A, a similar situation exists. USA has a +63 point diff, while Finland is +34, so USA has the advantage. A win or tie sends the Americans to the Gold Medal Game. Like Canada, Finland HAS to win. Even with the offensive explosion the Finns showed against hapless Austria, that's highly unlikely with the incredible IWFL all-star team the Americans have assembled.

In sum, I'm expecting USA in a shootout and Canada in another tight defensive battle on Thursday. But whether it's Canada or Germany, they had better get their offense on track, or they're in for a long Saturday night of watching many members of Team USA dancing in the end zone.

Half of the medal games are now set. Canada beat Germany today 20-12 to gain a berth in the Gold Medal Game. Germany will play for Bronze.

USA is up over Finland 34-0 at halftime as we speak.

Oh, Doctor! It's all over. Team USA just completed a 72-0 rout of Finland to advance to Saturday's Gold Medal Game against Canada. Finland will face Germany for the Bronze, while Austria will battle it out with Sweden for Fifth Place.

You can hang a star on THAT, Baby!!!

I originally assumed IFAF was International Female Australian-rules Football, but then you would have assumed that an Aussie team would have been in the mix, so now I'm not sure.

I just re-read. It's football. Pathetic high school JV teams could cream these US girls teams, imagine the product these other countries are putting out.

They hates that league! It's degrading to women they says! :ohno:

I've seen highlights of both games. Put full pads on the lingerie teams and they win the vast majority of the games.

And I wasn't being ignorant. I knew it wasn't lingerie football. I'd have had some images linked by now if it had been.

If I'm ever on a thread with SH and I see that there are posts from the like of andy, SCBH, & 93hf that are asking questions about women in any capacity then I know for sure that the ruse is on.

FWIW SC, I assumed the acronym stood for the International Fuck A Fatty League.

Does anyone else get the feeling that SH is a "face painter" for womenfolk's football?

And, yes, as a matter of fact, I have been known to paint up for my Sirens. I've also done the same for UOP WVB, UOP WBB, and Sac gymnastics. So what?

Two of the today's three classification games are out of the way. All that remains is USA's epic battle with Canada for Gold.

Sweden vindicated their host status by squeaking out a 20-18 win over Austria to claim Fifth Place. Just in the last few minutes, a furious German fourth-quarter comeback fell short as Finland claimed the Bronze Medal 26-18. Finland scored all of their points in the first half, holding the Germans to nothing, and only allowed 6 points in the third quarter. Germany made it interesting with two fourth-quarter touchdowns and were on their way to a potential game-tying TD as time expired.

USA-CAN starts in an hour and a half.

Team USA is ahead of Team Canada 51-0 at the half. Some crazy playcalling going on. More passing than one would expect watching the ultra-conservative Sirens.

USA has been going quite often to that Single Wing variant everyone calls the Wildcat. On the PAT following the second TD, out of FG formation, the left wingback motioned into a QB position and snuck it in for the 2. USA has also been hitting the Swinging Gate quite a bit, including the Swinging Gate variant known as the Duck. Rusty Sowers out of the Kansas City Tribe scored on a fade route out of the Duck as time ran out in the first half.
