2010 NBA Free Agency Thread

In an effort to not monolpoze the board with another Boston thread I will post this in a brand spanking new NBA Free Agency Thread.
BREAKING NEWS: Paul Pierce Opts Out Of Contract
No details yet, but hopefully this is just a formality move that would free up lots of money for Boston to use in free agency... they could then re-sign Pierce and Allen even after the team is at the salary cap limit.
The move will leave Boston about 22 million under the cap once Rasheed Wallace officially retires... The Celtics could become a serious contender for one of the big name free agents on the market this summer.

it's quite possible I dont understand the NBA cap. A link just posted by WEEI says a cap hold remains in place for Pierce and Allen until they sign new contracts somewhere so Boston still isnt much under the cap....

OK, I totally give up trying to understand the NBA salary cap.
Not only does it appear Boston wont have any cap relief until Pierce and Allen sign elsewhere, but now apparently even though Rasheed Wallace is retiring his contract still counts against the cap... WTF
The NBA cap is a bunch of crap... this is the same cap that the Knicks spent a few seasons nearly $80 million over... WTF.. You suck NBA Salary Cap!

That does sound stupid. Maybe the new CBA will fix some of the stupidities to the current cap.
Think I heard Pierce probably re-signs but this is his best way of getting more money since players are concerned that they may not be able to get as much in the next CBA. (same with Nowitzki with Dallas who did the same)

BREAKING NEWS: Rivers Will Return To Celtics Bench For 2010-11 Season
Doc Rivers told the Globe minutes ago that he is returning to coach the Celtics.
Rivers, who is in San Antonio watching his son Austin play in the FIBA-Americas Under-18 Championships, said he wants another chance to win an NBA title
"I'm coming back," he said in a text message. "I want another crack at it with this group."
The consensus was that the longer Rivers waited on a decision, the more likely he was to stay and he told WEEI radio last week that the lure of leaving and watching his sons play basketball and daughter volleyball was tempered by the opportunity of coaching the Big Three for one more year.

Agreed - Kobe has to be laughing his ass off about all of this - good chance to win a 6th title and a 3rd in a row next year and Lebron may have an hour special to say that he'll stay in Cleveland and win nothing (of course, if he does go to Miami he might actually have a shot). For someone who flamed out like they did in the most recent playoffs, an hour special on ESPN is a bit much.

When it comes to LeBron, it's all about "me". He will announce his decision in the first 10 minutes of the show. He will spend the remaining 50 minutes learning how to spell narcissist so that he can change his name to "LeNarcissist".
Shame on ESPN for agreeing to this. Instread of "30 for 30" they are showing "60 for LeBron".

With the rumors swirling at this time that LeBron is leaning toward the Heat, one has to wonder LeBron's decision processes. Having lived in the Cleveland area, how can one even debate living in Northeast Ohio vs South Florida? Is that even a rational question??

Meanwhile the Timberwolves get Michael Beasley off the Miami clearance rack for a 2nd round next year and a future first round pick.
Strib Link
Beasley's acquisition came soon after Golden State completed a sign-and-trade deal with New York to acquire power forward David Lee, whom the Wolves brought to town for a free agent visit on Saturday.

Timberwolves trade Sessions and Hollins for Delonte West and Sebastian Telfair, and are expected to buyout both contracts. Jonny Flynn will be out 3-4 months after having hip surgery. The Ridour signing looks better for them now with Flynn out.
