Tyson @ Olympics?!?
A boxer from Tajikistan was disqualified from the Olympics after biting his Kazakhstan opponent on the shoulder. Ironically, in the audience watching that fight was Evander Holyfield, who lost his ear to Mike Tyson 11 years ago.

And who says Mike Tyson wasn't a role model?

I was up late last night and couldn't believe my eyes. they showed a replay of the fight, and bite. What are some of these people thinking??? Oh and one more thing, Boxing is pretty much dead in the USA. There are too many belts. And the divisions are so close together that one person can go up and down in weight to get into a bunch of different weight classes. Maybe it is just be but I used to watch boxing a lot and even went to a few but in the past 4 or 5 years, I haven't seen any but a quick glimpse while channel surfing.

It's not the belts that's the issue, grizzaholic. It's not even the weightclasses, though there's something to that. It's the incredible way boxing has been brushed aside by MMA. It's unprecedented. Ever since the advent of prize fighting near the end of the 18th century, nobody challenged it, even when pro wrestling was considered "legit" (i.e. c. 1890-1960). (Yes, pro wrestling results were printed in standard newspapers way back when.)
Perhaps if we had more "middleweights" willing to step up to light heavy, there might be some interest. Yes, that did happen once. He even won the light heavyweight title. Didn't last too long after that, though. Something about detached retinas, if I remember correctly.

I think, and this is just me, that how can a guy be the heavy weight champion and another guy be the heavy weight champion. They both have a belt that says so, except one guy's says IBO and the other says WBO.
Maybe I am wrong, but it seems to not make any sense.

Multiple belts don't make sense, but they are not new. There are many things hurting boxing.grizzaholic wrote:SuperHornet wrote:It's not the belts that's the issue, grizzaholic. Re: Tyson @ Olympics?!?
My son got bitten during a Middle School wrestling tournament last year. My son is a pretty good wrestler, but he was only up 3-2 when it happened. His skin wasn't broken, but he had still multiple bite marks on his arm hours later.
I've seen quite a few accidental bites in wrestling, but this was no accident. It looked like there were at least three bites.
