George Steinbrenner just announced at a press conference that he has fired Billy Martin again. Steinbrenner said the move has been in the works for several years and that while happy to see Martin fired again he wishes it could have been several more years before the move was made.
When asked about potential replacements, Steinbrenner said there were no potential replacements, that the team would be led by Thurman Munson.
Steinbrenner was also asked how he could field a team of all stars in heaven where currency is of no use and Steinbrenner pointed out that the pool of Yankee greats to choose from was bottomless. He expects to spend the next several weeks on the phone with the Devil trying to secure trades for several Yankee greats currently in Hell.
Top of that list is the great Babe Ruth.
Steinbrenner added that he looks forward to dominating the heavenly league while Tom and Jean Yawkey control the Heavenly Red Sox and hopes to have a substantial championship advantage by the time John Henry arrives to take over the Sox.
