Nine-year-old Jericho Scott of New Haven, CT can throw 40 mph. For this, he is labeled a monster and liability by parents of opposing players.

As Scott took the mound to pitch last week, the opposing team refused to play, packed up their gear, and forfeited.

No joke...well, kind of.

Insane story. I will look into it and find out what I can. My mother still lives in New Haven and the kids attorney, John Williams, used to live across the street from us. Williams gets a lot of controversial cases, I knew he would be the attorney before I even saw his name in the article.

As of this morning, the family of the kid who was not allowed to play is going to be hitting all of the late night talk shows as well as the daytime ones. And the kid has to play with the older kids. The family was also hinting at a lawsuit.

A big shame on you to the baseball league and an even bigger shame on you to the parents of this kid who are teaching him to file a lawsuit if things don't go his way.

Grizza, sometimes I don't follow you. This would not be a frivolous lawsuit as it would have complete merit when it comes to discrimination. If the lawsuit is a righteous suit then I do not have a problem with people getting a little money. The kid and his team mates have been very sightly damaged but the point is more to punish for the wrong doing and I have no problem than that. It makes the point to those that have made this error in judgment and others that would think to make this type of error in the the future. If you bounce a check the bank puts a heavy penalty on your error in judgment to make sure that this behavior stops. If they didn't do this I would guarantee you that there would be many, many bounced checks.

I guess I see your point. Maybe I am just a little brain dead this morning but I don't see how giving money to the parents is the right thing to do. I see letting the kid play, but the money thing....eeh not so much. Now if it was to be put into a college fund or something along those lines or maybe donated to help with field maintience ok, but to give the money to the parents to do whatever with.

I guess I am just jumping way ahead of the game here. They have not filed it yet, but I assume they will once they finish their little talk show circuit. Or if the league has enough pressure from bad press that they cave in and let the kid play.

To me this is part of what's wrong with society in general also is that we think we should all pass judgment on how a righteous way for others to live their lives. I would bet that they would like to secure their child's future and would probably use the money in some form that would help them accomplish the task and let them do what THEY think is best with it, not what society as outsiders thinks is the best way for them to handle any assumed money. It's an interesting story to me and I think it is to a lot of other people as well and if they are offered talk show circuits to tell the story and shed light on the thing I don't have a problem with them doing so either. It doesn't make them slimy, although they may be. Tough for me to decide at this point.

True dat and I would think the judge and so forth would be aware of this and make things appropriate. As I said I don't think the parties were damaged greatly so the punitive should follow suit in that fact. Damages shouldn't be much, punitive should be something that will allow the message and continue the league as a going concern.
