Celtics Set To Add Shaq For Veterans Minimum

Amazing that Shaq would indeed do as he suggested when he said he would sign with Boston for the veterans minimum when he could get millions more from other teams. He likely sees Boston as his best chance to go out a winner of the teams willing to sign him.

Sources say the deal could be finalized tonight, though they add that its not a done deal he still could go elsewhere.

Shaq will split time with Jermaine O'Neill in Kendrick Perkins absence. Both players are older and certainly past their prime, but will give Boston better scoring from that position.

HA!

If by millions you mean one or two more...then yes, I guess that would fit millionS more.

However, I don't think any team would spend more than vet's minimum or slightly more on him.

Looks like it is getting closer to being a done deal. At one time I'd have been very excited about this...not so much now. Perkins needs to get well quickly.

A. Sherrod Blakely of CSNNE.com has reported that the Celtics are close to adding 15-time all-star center Shaquille O'Neal.

David Aldridge of NBA.com reports that the Celtics have informed O'Neal that he will come off the bench, subbing initially for Jermaine O'Neal. The team wanted to make that clear, Aldridge reported, because they did not want an unhappy Shaq to affect the team's chemistry.

If the arrangement works, the 38-year-old Shaq could provide needed frontcourt depth for a Celtics team that will be without Kendrick Perkins for the first few months of the season.

Once Perkins comes back I'd be surprised if Shaq stays on the roster. Watching him on the Cavs last year, he's a shell of a once dominant player.

i klike it because it allows the Celts not to rush perk back too fast. get him back in February so he is fuully in game mode by playoffs and Shaq can ride the pine when it matters.

10 years ago I'd be popping open a bottle of champagne over this news.

Hey, if he can help until Perkins gets back then I'll eat my words. But this guy is waaaaaaay past his prime.

Get well soon Mr. Perkins.
