Big Ten title game on agenda as coaches meet

CHICAGO — The way Rich Rodriguez sees it, Michigan and Ohio State would sell out if they "played three times a week" so he wouldn't expect empty seats if they met twice in a season.

That could happen if the Big Ten adds a championship game.

With Nebraska joining next year, the conference will be able to split into two six-team divisions and add what could be a lucrative title game.

Critics worry that a title game could trip up a team in the running for a national championship. Another issue is maintaining rivalries, like Michigan against Ohio State.

Rodriguez, the Wolverines coach, says he would prefer to keep playing the Buckeyes on the final weekend "just from a tradition standpoint." If they were in separate divisions, that could mean playing twice — and possibly in consecutive games.

Indianapolis to host first Big Ten title game

The Big Ten just announced the site of the 2011 Big Ten championship game. Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts and the 2012 Super Bowl, will be home to the first Big Ten title game.

The Big Ten made the smart choice by going with Indy.

Indianapolis has a history of holding large events. Their downtown infrastructure is perfect for visitors. Indy is a neutral city and having the game indoors should make it easier for both players and fans.
