Lodi, CA Private HS installs banned A-11

Big article about Lodi-Jim Elliot High, a small private school (named after a missionary to South America who was brutally murdered on the mission field) that has traditionally struggled due to roster size. Coach Dean Davis is making big local news after installing the A-11 offense which per our thread last year was banned by the NHSF Feb 2009. Apparently, Davis either doesn't know about that or doesn't care.

Word on the street is that Piedmont, the pioneers of the A-11, made changes to the offense after their appeal was denied to bring it into compliance with the new rules that close the scrimmage kick rule that made it possible. The problem is that those changes (having five players on the line with ineligible numbers) make actually running the offense problematic, at least in terms of maintaining the advantages the offense gave small schools with personnel issues.

Well if it is an illegal offense, it sucks for those kids on the team who will be losing every game this year until the coach complies and runs a legal offense. Kinda selfish.

I'm figuring he just didn't do his homework about it. I knew the guy 20-some-odd years ago, and he was generally a nice guy back then.

Apparently, CIF is letting Elliot get away with it. They did OK, but still lost their first game with it.
