Breaking news, significant tear in the elbow, Tommy John surgery probable, meaning the Nat's Strasburg isn't likely back until the 2012 season.

But this is by no means a career ender. Something like 90% of pitchers make a return successfully. 9 pitchers in the 2010 all-star game had TJS at one point in their career.

It'll be something on opening day in 2012 when both Strasburg and Harper are both in the starting lineup.

I'm no expert on this subject, but I did hear a lot of talk earlier this year about Strasburg's unnatural delivery and how it would cause him injury. Why wasn't this addressed in the minors?

Actually, assuming he's back by Opening Day in 2012. Return from TJ sometimes takes up to 18 months or more, so he's no gimme even to be back by then. And then of course, he could always reinjure it with his delivery. He may end up making Mark Prior look healthy.

Listening to either Dan Patrick or Mike and Mike this morning (I can't remember which one it was) but the discussion was a pitching coach that has said that Strasburg bought into the fact he was a "fireballer" and that he needed to hit 97-100 on the gun with every pitch. That changed his motion form and he said he could "see this coming".

Long story short he said Strasbug needs to go the Greg Maddux route (remember at one point Greg could hit 95-96 on the gun) and not try to over power people on every pitch, and use his movement to get people.

Nonsense, I'm the most optimistic person I know. Pretty sure you have me confused with someone else.

Tommy John surgery can be a good thing. So good in fact that people are getting it early for their teenaged prospect children so they can throw more breaking pitches.

This town is cursed I tell ya. What next, Run DMC's ankle will require surgury and he's out for the year? John Wall gets arrested and is suspended?

Fast balls don't put as much stress on your arm as do curve balls (at least not the type of stress that might end up requiring TJ surgery), thats why many coaches don't want little league pitchers throwing curve balls. Strasburg threw some nasty pitches, but they were just as nasty on his arm as they were on hitters.

Also, Ryan had a great work ethic and probably some great genetics.

Tough break for Strasburg, the kid was a great pitcher. No guarantees after this, he could come back the same pitcher or as formentioned he could be another Mark Prior/Kerry Wood that is never the same.

Don't know what's worse for DC area fans, the Strasburg news or having to watch McNabb under center, haha.

From what I know, Ryan's delivery was almost flawless. Experts saw problems with Strasburg from the start.

Franky Liriano too 2 seasons to get back to where he is today. Usually takes some time for the pitcher to gain confidence in his arm after surgery.
