Benjie Molina Enters Series Knowing Ring Is His Regardless

Post by UNHWildCats »

If he can't win one on the field with the Rangers, he will get one for his time with San Francisco from April through June.

Good deal, though its always better to win one on the field.

lol why is it effed up? Anyone who is on a 25 man roster even for one day gets a ring. heck I remember in 2005 during the Sox ring ceremony... They showed an image of a ring with each players name on it on the video board before the player came out. They had a young guy who was on the roster for like 2 days whos name was Martinez. When it flashed on the screeen the fans thought it was Pedro and started booing big time. Poor kid

Now the interesting thing is what San Fran does with playoff shares. Some teams will vote half or full shares to former players who were part of the team for part of the season (2004 Sox gave Nomar a full share even though he was traded at the deadline.) These shares are voted on by the players. Will the players vote Molina a half or full share? If they do he would get a full winner or loser share for Texas plus potentially a half or full winners or losers share for San Fran.. though the playoff share is probably likely to not be given since he will get one with Texas.

He'd give them only to the guys who lead the team in penalty minutes. :coffee: :coffee:

What the fuck is this, a t-ball league where everyone wins? Fuck that. I think a player should only receive a ring if he was on the team's roster at the end of the regular season (knowing that not all players make the postseason roster).

Ah...so let's say the Twins won the World Series this year. Morneau wouldn't deserve a ring?

When did he go off the roster? Was it back in June? Has he been playing for a different team since before the all-star break?

EDIT: so being on the roster at the end of the regular season might be a little far-fetched, but how about a player has to play in an an overwhelming majority of games for the WS winning team? A player who left in the middle of the season....tough shit. Your team obviously didn't think you were a part of their equation. So sorry, so sad, go earn your ring elsewhere. :ohno:

July 7th was his last game. He played 81 games, which is half the season.

Molina or Morneau?

I'd make the cutoff the trading deadline, July 31st.

EDIT: I know I'm all over the place now with suggesting minimum games first and then suggesting a cutoff.  I hadn't really thought about it too much before now though. But to me it just seems stupid to pamper a professional player because he used to play with a team LONG before that team was in the playoff hunt and playoffs.

His 3 months with the team helped put them in position to make the playoffs just as much as someone who was there in September. I got no problem saying someone who played 1 game shouldnt get one, but when u got a guy who contributed for 3 months... thats half the season, than hell he deserves it.

I disagree. Yeah, he was there in the beginning, but he wasn't there in the stretch during the playoff hunt. This isn't 6 or 7 year old's we're talking about where we might be worried about hurting someone's feewings.

So the 61 games he played and contributed to the SF Giants season meant nothing? Fuck why do we play games before the all star game than if they mean nothing to determine where a team ends up at seasons end.

What if a pitcher went 9-1 in 11 starts to start the season and then tore his arm apart and had tommy john... He only played April and May and his team went on to win the series... does he not deserve a ring for helping them win those 9 games?

Why is Molina's contributions less meaningful than that of the bench players for San Francisco that had less ABs for San Fran than he did?

He's no longer on the team. And hasn't been on the team for the majority of the season. That's it.

And if we have to go into discussions about pitchers/bench players who are still on the team, then I can't help you because that is just a shoddy argument at best.

So in YOUR world, a guy who gets called up the last day of the season to cover an injury situation but isn't held over for the playoffs gets a ring, but one who is called up for one day in June doesn't?

Doesn't make much sense....

This could be the first SuperHornet pwnage of bandl. I have a call into the Elias Sports Bureau for confirmation.

Don't talk to me about MY world...no one on this forum can even begin to fathom the world you live in, so let's not even go there. And please read the rest of the thread, wierdo.

But in that scenario...No.

And leave it up to Travis not to reveal all the facts here. This is the Giants decision, not MLBs, according to the 2 articles I just read online. I'm not sure if there is a MLB rule/guideline or not. If the Giants want to award a ring to him for his service....their perogative. I personally think that's bullshit. And I'm sure all his teammates on the Rangers will think so too, if he chooses to accept it.

How so? Because they falls in line with the rest of the pussies that thinks a player should get a ring because he (or as they will say, OR she) used to play for a team that got into the playoffs and won the World Series without him?

I think They skewered you with this little gem:

Trying to save face at this point is just making the hole deeper. Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to a herm and move on.

Let's not forget that I already confessed that I was all over the place, well before Thingamabob did:

"EDIT: I know I'm all over the place now with suggesting minimum games first and then suggesting a cutoff. I hadn't really thought about it too much before now though. But to me it just seems stupid to pamper a professional player because he used to play with a team LONG before that team was in the playoff hunt and playoffs."

my point is that in THIS scenario, before anyone brought up Morneau or pitchers or bench players or one day players, he doesn't deserve a ring. They traded him. No longer a part of the team.

Kind of sorta reminds me of the scene in Band of Brothers in the bar/pub where some of the newbies were wearing their pins/awards that the company received for the jump into Normandy. Except that the newbies didn't actually jump into Normandy.

If the Giants win WS and consider his contributions to the team prior to 7/1/10 worthy of receiving a championship ring, good on them. I don't think they are just going to waste $25K on a diamond encrusted ring on just anyone.

Take the loss bandle. All this flailing around is embarrassing. I like firefly John Daly's, I recognised right away my error for admiting such. Let it go, and it will go away for the most part.

Suck it. It's pussified!

If I were playing for the Giants and we lost the World Series and I found out that Molina still accepted the ring...you'd be damn sure I'd be taking a dump in his glove and wiping his batting glove on my sweaty balls after every game the following season. And that's a FACT. BANK ON IT.

He's going to be 37 next year. He damn well might retire this off-season. In which case WGAS what the Rangers care. It's not like team loyalty is the big thing these days.
