I'd like to know who made this and what presuppositions they're using. It's certainly not accurate on the west coast. The stupid Giants have a much larger influence in Central Cali than they're getting credit for here.

I'd also be willing to bet that there are still some Expo fans still rooting for the Nationals. (Not many, but a few.)

my guess is the person highlighted who is the larger presence in an area. Montreal is left blank. Sure the Giants may have a following in SoCal but is it greater than any of the local teams? Probably not.

The Twins pretty much own Iowa West of I-35 and North of about Highway 3 in Iowa.

Who said anything about SoCal? The people I deal with in the Sac-Joaquin Valley are all Giants fans, and that area extends from the Oregon border to about Fresneck or even Bako. Few people inland like the F's as much as the Giants.

The map is obvioulsy a joke, there is no way the Nationals and Pirates should even be featured on the map, let alone have that much territory.

You can add the Mets.

Good grief guys, I don't think this was meant to be the gospel of fandome in MLB. It's just a fun (and pretty cool IMO) graphic.

Good grief 89, it's not as if any of us took it seriously. Well, except maybe SH, but then you wouldn't have said "guys" if you were talking to SH.

Ya but since 1950 they have combined for as many World Series appearances (3) in a combined 30 seasons than Seattle, Washington/Texas, Montreal/Washington, California/Anaheim/Los Angeles Angels, Chicago Cubs have in a combined 273 seasons. And in the same time have won more World Series titles than said teams (3-1) So its ok to exaggerate their fan bases a little bit :)

Does the whole eastern half of North Carolina really pull for the Nationals? That seems a stretch.

Montana should probably be split between the Mariners, Rockies, and Twins (with a little black dot in Deer Lodge for Willie).

I see a lot of Rockies fans out here, surprisingly. This makes me happy.

Most of Oklahoma, Alabama and Mississippi should be included in Cardinal Nation.

Fox got it wrong. When the Giants last won the WS, there was one team west of the Mississippi. Until the Giants and Dodgers moved west, the Cardinals were the western and southern-most team in the nation. That's why they still have a lot of fans in the West and South.

The year before the Giants last won (1953), there were TWO teams west of the Mississippi. Between the 1953 and 1954 seasons, the St. Louis Browns (AL) moved to Baltimore, taking over the old minor league Orioles name. The old minor league team was in the International League, with late affiliations with the Phillies, Indians, and finally, the Browns.

Interestingly enough, the early Orioles signed George Ruth, but had to sell his rights to Boston and move to Richmond under pressure from the short-lived Federal League.
