Contract year for Oden and the Blazers have held off offering a new contract. Oden's professional career has spanned a whopping 82 games total so far. We'll learn more about this as well as Brandon Roy's knee at a press conference at 9pm PST tonight (Wednesday).

4th season since being drafted and he will have played a total of 82 games.... Sad.... Portland made a bad choice drafting him.

I'd be inclined to say, based on our luck in the draft, that if we took Durant, he would have had bad knees and Oden would now be hailed as the second coming of Chamberlain.

In it’s trade deadline moves Thursday, Portland took on a number of players (with expiring contracts, to free up cap space to rebuild on the fly) but in doing so at the end of the day they had 17 guys on the 15-man roster. Cuts had to be made.

One of those is Greg Oden.

The 2007 No. 1 overall pick who has not been on an NBA court in three years and is headed for a third microfracture surgery is finally going to be waived, according to Marc Stein of ESPN and multiple other reports.

The Blazers had brought him back on the roster this year but even then it was a reduced rate then his qualifying offer (more than $8 million) because they didn’t think he would contribute much. Then came word that a minor knee surgery became another microfracture. At that point everybody knew it was the end.

This move is not really a surprise. But it is the sunset on the Oden era.
Sam Bowie vs Michael Jordan career stat lines:

511 games, 14,098 minutes played, 5564 points, 3845 rebounds, 10.9 PPG, 7.5 RPG
1072 games, 41,010 minutes played, 32,292 points, 6,672 rebounds, 30.1 PPG, 6.2 RPG

Greg Oden vs Kevin Durant career stat line:

82 games, 1816 minutes played, 773 points, 602 rebounds, 9.4 PPG, 7.3 RPG
368 games, 14,015 minutes played, 9,617 points, 2,422 rebounds, 26.1 PPG, 6.6 RPG

The Sam Bowie pick looks like a genius pick compared to the Greg Oden pick.
