They're supposedly on the 3rd round of voting - it's down to the US and Qatar

Russia's not a huge shock at all - FIFA doesn't really like England, and the press in the past few weeks, no matter how accurate, didn't help. Plus the whole Eastern European angle just made sense.

Seems like they may actually be choosing Russia BECAUSE of the olympics.

Brazil is hosting the WC in 2014 and the summer olympics in 2016.

Qatar? Seriously? They should at least keep it to countries that have been to a WC. Giving somebody like Qatar one of the spots is a serious joke.

simple money.
they bought off other countries by promising them the stadiums after the cup...

There is no logical explanation for Qatar, other than a boatload of money under the table. The U.S. has Qatar beat in every facet....multiple large stadiums, hotels, domestic transportation, guaranteed sellouts, high ticket prices, cost and ease of convenience to get to the U.S., etc.

I thought Obama was sucking off the world? No Olympics, now now World Cup....
He's a complete bust. Apparently he doesn't swallow.

Well, that means I won't be going to a World Cup game with my kids ever. Qatar - that's just brutal.

Actually FIFA has said in the past they don't like a country hosting big events so close together - Russians got it due to oil money, Anglophobia, and that reporter who wired the FA head a few months ago when he went off about the Spainish/Russian bids

Bingo
The ExCo won't be alive long enough to reap the rewards of a US WC so the highest possible payoff is right now, under the table, from Qatar

On the BBC they are bringing up the point that the FIFA inspection team that went to Qatar called the country "high risk" (being the Middle East, hardly a shock) - but $$$ does trump details like that.

Russia - 2014 olympics, 2018 WC
Brazil - 2014 WC, 2016 Olympics

Qatar, currently ranked 113th in the world, will be hosting and playing in the World Cup. Congrats FIFA for making yourself look as credible as a South Korean judge at a boxing match.

Safety.

I would certainly feel safer at any U.S. sporting event (except Philly

) than I would in any country under Islamic Law. Shit, I'd feel like I might get my hand chopped off for having a drink!

Sorry. I was inferring that you left "safety" off your list of reasons to choose the U.S. not the other way around.
