So my Orioles got J.J. Hardy for basically nothing. What gives? I thought he was pretty good, no?

He isn't bad, but he was injured all the time. The team basically wanted his contract off the books so they can sign some other players. This is the first year of Mauer's mega deal so some changes needed to be made.

The Twins like Hardy, but the needed to free up money to sign Tsuyoshi Nishioka from Japan, and resign Pavano. Nishioka is projected as the starting 2B and Casilla will be the regular SS. Harris salary is also shipped to Baltimore.

salary dump by my hometown 9 pure and simple... they are making a hard push for pavano - plus with Nishioka coming on board - they didn't need him. big plus is that they also saddled Baltimore with the albatross that is Brendan Harris...

Twins also need bullpen help and have been very good at scouting other teams organizational depth for bullpen guys...
