LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Bill Conlin, a legend in Philadelphia sports journalism for 50 years, was selected as the 2011 winner of J.G Taylor Spink Award in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America, which was revealed on Tuesday.
Conlin will be honored with the award during the National Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremonies on July 25 in Cooperstown, N.Y. The award is given annually to a sportswriter for "meritorious contributions to baseball writing."
"I am thrilled and surprised," Conlin said upon hearing about the award.
