Having been a fan of the Carolina Panthers since the beginning of the franchise, I am used to not always getting what I want. The Panthers have always been a franchise that went with what Jerry Richardson wants, rather than the fans.....The latest blow out loss was to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, and we got a teaser of what things could be like with Armanti Edwards at quarterback.
Actually, it was more of a tiny little nibble, as Edwards came in for one play and then proceeded to sit the bench for the rest of the game. The play was a quick screen to David Gettis(notes), which netted no gain. For his part, Edwards delivered a perfect strike to Gettis, but the play was blown up by an amped up Falcon defense before it really got started.
It does, however, beg a question—why would the Carolina Panthers spend a second round draft pick on the enigmatic and exciting Armanti Edwards and then proceed to keep him off the field?....Here is a clue for the Panthers brass—Armanti Edwards is a quarterback.
For those that say Edwards is not an NFL caliber quarterback, I say hogwash. This kid was unbelievable for the Appalachian State Mountaineers in his career, and he was awarded the Walter Payton award not once but twice....Why not give the kid a chance to lead this team?
Remember that fellow over in Philly named Mike Vick? He and Edwards share some qualities to be sure. Edwards is actually a better passer than Vick. I watched Vick for years with Atlanta during their wars with the Panthers, and have continued to observe his rise to fame now with Philly. I also had the pleasure of watching Edwards throughout his career at Appalachian State. Edwards blows Vick away as far as arm strength and accuracy, at least when comparing him to Vick's early days in Atlanta. As for his elusiveness and running ability, that much is already clear. Edwards can be explosive in an offense that has none at the moment.
Now, will the Panthers have the brains and guts to put the guy out there and give him a chance?

Reading the comments, it seems the fans are beaten down enough now that they are willing to give it a shot. Most fans were fully against giving AE a shot at all early in the season. I mean they've cycled through Moore, Claussen, Pike, and that dude who was a stay at home dad and still managed to win ONE WHOLE GAME to date. The Panthers make the Bills look like the Patriots at this point in the season.

This is what Broncos fans feel after another Orton-led loss while Tebow sits.
But it's PC to smack Tebow!

Man, are you Armanti himself? Better arm strength than Vick? Come on, hop off the homer wagon. And really, it was hard reading past the line where you said Armanti threw a perfect strike...on a quick screen. Wow.

While you and I can both appreciate the irony of that awe-struck statement by the author regarding professional caliber QB's, with regard to Panther QB's this year, it ranks in the top 5 passes...

Wow. Carolina looks anemic on offense today.

Would like to see AE come in so I don't have to watch that eyesore of an offense. Surely AE could outdo Clausen (sp?) today.

The Panthers are pathetic, and Claussen isn't the answer. I don't see what they have to lose by putting AE in for some snaps except the anemic offensive line would probably get him killed within the first couple of snaps.
Anybody heard the short list for Fox's replacement?

Once again, the Patriots thank Carolina for that #3 overall pick we got in exchange for them to draft a guy they let rot away on the bench as their offense sucks it up.
