Idiot gets 51 years to life for killing Angels rookie

Twenty-four-year-old punk just didn't get the message. Dude was over 3x the legal limit when he blew through a red light at 65 mph, killing Angels rookie pitcher Nick Adenhart and two friends. Another friend survived after having his spine separated from his skull. He was already on probation for felony DUI.

When will people learn?

The 51 years are not going to bring the Angels rookie back to life, there needs to be something in place to prevent drunk driving. For example, when you go in for an out-patient surgery, it's required to have a driver with you before you can go home.

:?:

Are you suggesting that such a program would bring the Angels rookie back to life?

They really ought to run him over with a Peterbuilt. They could hold a special California lottery to win the right to drive the truck. It would be the fiscally responsible sentence.

Or be 100% effective in stopping this kind of thing, for that matter.

I am suggesting they are punishing the result (aka after the player died) and not preventing the cause (stop the dude from driving drunk in the first place, therefore preventing this from happening).

Are you suggesting nothing should be done to prevent drunk driving?

How will that bring the Angels rookie back to life?

It won't and I never suggested it would.

No, just saying that even preventative measures wouldn't necessarily have saved his life.

I guess I'm just a little perturbed at MADD for concentrating on punishing the drunk drivers, or at least raising the publicity on punishment versus preventative measures. Yes there should be punishment, but also preventative measures. And of course none of this will bring the Angels rookie back to life.

Not even close. :coffee:

I'm not against trying to discourage people from drunk driving, I was simply making the rather obvious point that some people will are still going to do it regardless.

I brought up that 51 years won't bring him back, you brought up that the program would bring him back to life.

I asked you why you even mentioned the 51 years. What does it have to do with the rest of your post or the point that you were trying to make?

You bring the thread back after four days, and you still don't have an answer. Take as much time as you need. Something tells me 51 years won't bring out an answer.
