The Oakland Raiders will announce the promotion of OC Hue Jackson to HC at a news conference tomorrow.
This is great news for the defunct program at UOP. Two UOP football players are NFL head coaches on the west coast. Yay!!!

So SH, kicking extra points in several FCS games is all it takes to get into you Hall of Fame? What gives with that?

Things gotta start somewhere. Getting girls football off the ground at the HS and college levels (if it ever happens) is probably going to follow the water polo model: a couple of girls play on the boys team, thereby generating interest. When enough girls want to play to support a separate girls league (even if the boundaries don't co-incide with those of the boys league), then split it off. The first girls in should be recognized. I still think Ila Borders (a pitcher) and Pam Postema (an umpire) should be honored for similar efforts in baseball.
It's all about pioneering. Sure, the stats aren't there. That's a given when you're fighting against the "system." You honor the pioneers.

great hire and loved Al Davis's state of the Raiders speech. No love lost for Cable or Lane Kiffin.
Cable, BTW, is Seattle's new OL coach.

I guess the news is so new that it hasn't reached the Hawks' site yet. Yahoo! Sports does have an article about it, though. They had the hire so tied to the firing of the OC that I just about missed the intent for Cable to focus on OL in the fine print. There was almost an implication that Cable would be OC. Given that the position is still open, that's certainly possible, though by no means certain.

That why Hue was brought over in the first place. They had no intentions of extending Cable's contract. Hue doubled the offensive output this year thus passing his audition. I hope he can coach up Campbell like he did Flacco.
He must have some Rex in him as he has called out the AFC West already.

Does it matter who coaches the Raiders as long as Al Davis is still alive?
Same deal with the Redskins and Dan Snyder.

There's a difference.
Al has been known to micromanage the actual coaching to the point of mandating the long ball. Snyder hasn't really been known to get down to that kind of detail; he just holds coaches to an impossible standard and fires them too soon to realistically reach that.
Actually, this mentality has filtered through all major pro sports in the last two decades or so. Landry and Walsh would have been canned LONG before their success had owners behaved back then as they do now. It's the impatient owners that are ruining sports nowadays.

Oh my god, we agree on something
Although I wouldn't completely put it on the owners. Throwing a scapegoat to the fans is very important, as people want answers and a person to blame, and they want them now!

You can add the salary cap on who to blame. With all the money that is being thrown at rookie, particularly QBs, owners don't want that moeny sitting on the bench for 4-5 years as they did back in the 70s and 80s.

The last two posters make very good points. I think I have a way around the second one, though. It won't get very far with the impatient fans Silenoz mentioned, but it should get by 94's point.
Don't go for the 1st round splash at QB. Pick up a decent QB in the 3-8th round or even as a FA. There are PLENTY of those floating around below that bogus Kiper's radar. Let them spend 4-5 years learning the system as an apprentice at near-minimum pay, THEN given them their shot. Of course, that depends on having a good veteran on the first string. But it's DEFINITELY a good way to keep the ball rolling once it's started.

One problem, you won't find a QB in the 8th round
