NHL All-Star Game

I'm sure plenty of you don't give a rats arse about the NHL All-Star game, but what do you think of the new format? For those that don't know, the teams are going to be selected this Friday night by two "captains" and their two "alternate captains". It will be like an old schoolyard draft... I'll take Ovechkin, I'll take Malkin... So there is no East-West and teammates can be on opposite sides. Would suck to be the last one chosen, even though they are still one of the best players in the NHL.

What say ye?

(No, there's no pee in the butt)

I don't think it's stupid, I just don't like it.

It's better than the uninspired East v. West... and A LOT better than the xenophobic North America v. World shit they did a few years ago.

does that make the Olympics xenophobic as well?

what about that "Texas players vs. non-Texas players" college exhibition/"all-star" football game that they do?

olympic hockey is totally different animal... the nhl going with that format was a sop to critics who said part of the games problem was the rise of euro players...

i think the texas thing is equally stupid - but then again i think all those "all star" things are stupid.

those "all star" things in college football (and other sports too, if they have similar things) can give players from non-BCS schools (including FCS players) a chance for some more exposure to pro scouts and the like. So I have zero problem with them.

As far as pro "all star game" formats, no matter which format is used, there will be people who dislike it. If having teams from the two conferences is "uninspired", then I guess every other pro "all-star" game is just as uninspired, as MLB, NFL, and NBA does the same thing.

But anyhow, I really don't see how NA vs. the World really qualifies as "xenophobic". as it doesn't really generate any more "fear and hatred" of foreigners than the classic conference vs. conference matchup generates "fear and hatred" of players from the other conference.

What's the difference? The final score will still be 15-14 and the game will resemble hockey only because it will be played on ice by toothless men.

Quit exaggerating. Going back to 1994 when the conference names changed from people names to geographic designations, both teams failed to score 10 goals nine times in games actually played. (Several games were cancelled due to strike or Olympics.)

That was not exaggeration. It was hyperbole.
