Baltimore Orioles
I am very much leaning towards picking them to finish second in the East.
As of this very moment I am leaning towards this
Boston
Baltimore
Tampa Bay
New York
Toronto

Re: Baltimore Orioles
You better not be basing that on one second banana who retired today....

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Re: Baltimore Orioles
I'm basing it on the whole of the Orioles offseason. Adding Reynolds, Lee, Guerrero, Hardy along with their young team being a year older that team is going to have a very good offense, the question is can they get decent pitching from the players they got....SuperHornet wrote:You better not be basing that on one second banana who retired today....
Re: Baltimore Orioles
Their top 3 starters (Guthrie, Matusz, Bergesen) went 19-7 with a 2.77 ERA in August & September last year...UNHWildCats wrote:I'm basing it on the whole of the Orioles offseason. Hey, if you want to put the whammy out on the Red Sox, fine, that's your team, but why are you dragging the Orioles down with you?

Re: Baltimore Orioles
With Vlad behind him in the line up, this might be the year for Markakis to really break out. Even 3-4 years past his prime Vlad's .300/29HR/115RBI becomes the biggest bat in the line up. Boston is head and shoulder above the rest of the division, but I think the other four teams will finish within 8-10 games of each other.
1- BRobb
2- AJones
3- Markakis
4- Vlad
5- Scott
6- Lee
7- Reynolds
8- Weiters
9- Hardy
Not horrible. Hopefully if they can break .500, the O's might actually attract a real FA next year.

I blame Peter Angelos and Albert Belle.

Re: Baltimore Orioles
so when JJ Hardy goes on the DL and they are forced to call up Brendan Harris and he becomes a clubhouse cancer like he was in Minn... enjoy that...
also - and take this from a Twins fan... those bats aren't enough... the pitching needs to be much better... I think they could get over .500 if they stay healthy... but I am very skeptical... any team with this much hype going in to a season about how they will "surprise" is destined to disappoint.

Re: Baltimore Orioles
The reason Boston missed the playoffs last year wasn't because of injuries. It was because they had mediocre starting pitching starting at the No. 3 spot in their rotation; and because of a below average bullpen. They did nothing to address the first problem and added some average arms to the bullpen.andy7171 wrote:Boston is head and shoulder above the rest of the division, but I think the other four teams will finish within 8-10 games of each other.
I think Beckett and Lackey are what they showed last season. The Sox are banking that they will return to 2007 form. We'll see.
Also, remember, the two players who kept the Boston offense in the game last year were Adrian Beltre and Victor Martinez, two guys who were ousted in the "upgrades." Sounds a lot like what the Yankees did in the later 80s.
Re: Baltimore Orioles
One good thing about all this is that it is real easy to get tickets to a game in Camden Yards, even on the day of!andy7171 wrote:The wire to wire season 1997.89Hen wrote:When was the last time that's happened? I don't think any of your girls have ever seen a winning season in B'more.

(Except opening day...right?
I'm torn....should my sons first baseball game be at Camden Yards or at Nat's Stadium? O's will always be my #1 team, but until Angelos dies or sells the team, they are pretty much on stand-by.

Re: Baltimore Orioles
Oh, we'll definitely hit a few games there and at the Frederick Keys. Simply because it's a ton cheaper (ticket prices AND beer prices) and more intimate.89Hen wrote:Potomac Cannons.bandl wrote:I'm torn....should my sons first baseball game be at Camden Yards or at Nat's Stadium? Pretty much. Although I went to one of the games against the Nat's and the place was packed. This year Angelos has a new "same day" ticket price that is a dollar or so more. 2009 World Series.
Ivan Nova
Bartolo Colon
Mark Prior
Andrew Brackman
Sergio Mitre
These are the guys competing for the last two spots in the Yankees rotation. None of them are good or even average players.

Nova and Brackman are very talented guys. Nova is a solid MLB "five" right now.free7694 wrote:Freddy GarciaJoltinJoe wrote:

You guys gotta give Joe a break... He's not used to seeing the Yankees with only one good starter and a lineup thats closer to AARP than to their prime...

You Phillies and Sox fans are funny. It's February and you guys are already 15 games ahead.
February belongs to you; October belongs to the Yankees.
