For UFC Fans...

Post by Grizo406 »

UFC 91 is Saturday night on PPV...BFD for some, but please humor me on my attempt to pad my post count.

The main event; Couture vs Lesnar, is the only reason I'm getting this one. The under card isn't that exciting, except for maybe the Florian/Stevenson fight.

I've got $100 on Brock to win. I've never bet against Randy before, but one can only play the "age card" so many times, and its already been done in the past...a few times.

At 45 years old, and about a 40lb weight dis-advantage, against a World Class wrestler, I couldn't pass this bet up.

Not much of a fan but I will tune in tonight to this fight. It will be interesting if Lesnar can compete in UFC. I know he is big and if he hits somebody they are going to feel it but in his last( I am not a big fan so I am sure I am wrong on the fight date ) or maybe two ago, he was winning but got hooked up in a submission and lost. Hope he does well and hope he has learned from his mistakes.

I'm not thrilled with any MMA card not involving Crush. "The Next Big Thing" patently wasn't, and that extends to MMA as well. He's been a complete flop since he left the Gophers, and I suspect that he's going to be a flop the rest of his athletic career. A failure in WWE, a failure with the Vikings, and a failure in MMA, too. Go get a real job, Brock.

I guess he could always go back to his ranch in Wis. or Minn. or wherever it is and be a farmer. He should be really good at throwing hay bales.

I don't know what the hell the complete flop talk about Lesnar is all about. There are very few heavyweight that I could ever think of that would be thrown in against former champions in their first few fights in MMA. Lesnar is 2-1 in his career so far that is only about 1 1/2 old at this point. The man has come in against some of the best competition the division has to offer. He got caught due to inexperience in his fight with Mir and had he had some training against at least a couple of decent submission opponents he probbly would have won the fight with him as well. It looked like Mir was in real trouble until he got lesnar in a kneebar and ended the fight. The guy has some athletic talent or else an NFL team would not have given a shot to a guy that hadn't played a down of football. Find me someone else that's made that transition successfully. If he does lose to Couture then he is not a flop either, he will be fighting a guy that is widely considered one of the greatest MMA fighters ever in only his fourth fight. If you don't like the guy then so be it...saying he is a flop is complete bullshit.

As I agree with everything you have said here, I just think SuperHornet is just looking to stir up some talk. On the other thread SuperHornet mentioned that Cole should be the Walter Payton award winner hands down.

Hmmm...he may be. Unfortunately I only have a couple of minutes to take a quick look at the boards until Monday now so the timing is off for banter. I do agree with him on Cole...well, not completely but his line of thinking.

So people what was the out come? I ended up falling asleep after the Griz game and didn't wake up until late so I missed going out to watch it.

I only planned on watching Lesnar vs Couture, but STILL being sicker than shit, with a cold that's just now thinking it might want to move on, I had nothing better to do than watch the entire event.

Some excellent fights on the card, and I'm glad I watched the whole thing!

I don't want to spoil it for those that haven't seen it yet, so I'll only give one result; Couture got his ass beat, but he did do some damage! Referee stoppage due to strikes in the 2nd round. I got nothing but respect/admiration for Randy; a class act, and one of the true pioneers of the UFC, but Brock was too big, and too strong for an aging Captain America.

If Lesnar wants to hang on to his belt, there are a ton of things he need to work on, not the least of which is his cardio.

The belt ain't going to last around his waist. I'm surprised he was able to beat Couture without a run-in from a buddy. I still say he can't beat Crush....

You got a real hard on about the WWE thing or what? He tried out the WWE to try and make a little money and found out that he didn't like the way business was done and tried to find another way to make some money that didn't work out either and now is hack to what he is actually decent at. I think he is gonna have trouble unless he can get his conditioning up a couple of notches and he also needs to get some work on submissions but the guy has a shitload of raw talent, size, and power. In other words the rest can be worked on through training.

Crush has nothing to do with the WWE's old Crush from Demolition. The only connection between the new Crush and the WWE is Hulk Hogan, and he's only hosting.

When it comes to performance over a career between WWE rejects, I'll take The World's Most Dangerous Man over Lesnar, even if he's washed up now.

Of course, playing in an alumni football game with his ringer self (he got away with it because he was coaching our freshman team) provides just a TAD of bias.
