Looking like the last week of October as the Four Aces hold their first-ever press conference together. Last time there was this much attention on 4 guys is when some guys from Liverpool hit NYC in the 60's, think they played music.

As much as I love having 4 quality starters, somebody has to provide the run support. Utley and Howard in particular need to bounce back, and the Phils can still use some right-side power. I love the Phils, but I'm not popping any corks quite yet. :)

Well, the Phils are easily a 90+ win team this year and a virtual lock to get into the postseason. Anything that happens from there is simply playoff baseball. But the Phils have put together what they have to to get there.

90? Four 25 games winners = 100 right there. 8-)

I'll take that bet. :thumb: In fact, I'll make the bet that you won't even have 4 20 game winners.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

who replaces Werth in the lineup?

I'm pitching around Howard until someone scares me behind him... right now? nobody there.

Rollins also needs to not be as disappointing as he was last year.

the aces certainly give them a leg up... but is JC Romero still the bullpen lefty?? if so... better hope they can go 8 every night.

(this all being said by a Twins fan who would kill a small village of children for just one of those f'ing starters)

Hey, isn't Scott Baker in that same class? 8-)

Of course, the Phils had all those problems last year (Werth didn't scare anyone for 2/3'rds of the year, Rollins was bad all year, and Romero was in the bullpen) and the Phils still somehow won 98 games and Oswalt was only here for the last two months and Lee wasn't here at all. I'm thinking the Phils are going to be just fine. :thumb:

If the Phils can't scrape 100 wins this year, something is seriously wrong.

I was just low-balling it. In reality, they're almost a lock for at least 95 games and another division title. They might get 100, and they certainly have enough to do so. But I'll take another division title and home field advantage even if it's less than 100 wins.

round here we call him "moon shot scott" or "home run baker"... oy. guy can be lights out one start and then have three where he looks like a AAAA starter...

Liriano is the best we've got... followed, surprisingly by Pavano... never thought i'd say that...

My Prediction is:

Lee 14-8
Oswalt 15-8
Halliday 24-7
Hammels 14-10
Kendrick 14-11

I thought Blanton is #5.

Lee 25-2
Oswalt 25-2
Halladay 25-2
Hammels 25-2
Blanton 15-15

That's 115-23 with 24 games for the pen to worry about.

So who is #5 then, Mr JBB of Phillies Nation?

Lee 14-6 (and one stint on the DL)
Oswalt 16-9
Halladay 22-5
Hamels 13-9
Blanton 7-5 (and a DL stint - and a demotion to the pen at some point for Kendrick)

That's 72-34 from the rotation with 56 to be decided by the pen. Assuming, generously, that the Phils pen is a .500 place and their bats can hit them back in to it a few times
Bullpen 31-25

Gives them a record of
103-59

:twocents:

going out on one other prediction limb... one of the four aces is going to go down for the year - early... i hope not. to be clear, the Phils are my favorite NL team since 06 (when i lived in philly) but I just have a feeling it's going to happen.

So what's the prognosis on Morneau? Is he recovered from the concussion?

It's the best kept secret in the Twins organizaton, is he or isn't he. They say he is, but we'll find out soon when Spring Training starts. Morneau cancelled his Twinsfest appearance at the end of January, probably because he would get bombarded with questions about his playing status.

Didn't wanna start another thread...

What's downright sickening is the $$ Pujols is asking for. NO ATHLETE is worth $30 fucking million a season. No sport, period. Do I think the amounts a lot of the players make, including Yankees are disgusting? Yes I do. No human being is worth that much money to play a damn game.

Baseball is a helluva lot tougher than the retarded NBA.

While I agree, I will say Pujols is the best player in baseball and deserves to be compensated as such... MLB NEEDS a salary cap, and until a real salary cap is instituted... and im not talking the kind like the NBA has where theres enough loopholes that allowed the Knicks to sit about $80 million over the cap for a few years, the salaries will only continue to get out of hand.
