The Yankees are the ones giving middle relievers $35 million over 3 years.... They can cry all they want about the luxury tax, but they are the problem. The Yankees are the ones who started this...

The sox are forced to spend what they do so they can compete with the Yankees. But even the Red Sox have financial sensability, they would never give a middle reliever the kind of contract the Yankees gave Soriano. And prior to this off season, the current ownership group had never given out a 100 million contract.
