AL MVP

Post by Col Hogan »

He's 5'7" tall...so short a club house attendent in Colorado refused him entry before the first game of the 2007 World Series...

He' was the AL ROY in 2007...and this year he adds the AL MVP hardware...

Dustin Pedoria, the Boston second baseman, easily won this years MVP award...

Pedroia's also from Woodland, near Sac-Town.

Actually, IMO, the best ASU alum of all time played second base and QB for the Sun Devils: the immortal Danny White.

Somehow, I think Barry Bonds (as much as I hate him), has far surpassed Danny White as the most accomplished ASU alum...

I dunno, AZ...

White has a Super Bowl ring, was a multi-position football player, has (or had) several Cowboy team records, and played two collegiate sports. Since his playing career ended, White has also reached the pinnacle as a coach, which he has done several times.

Bonds, while he may have the career HR mark, was a journeyman at best in ONE sport (as seen by his multiple team switches, and really only played one position. (We never got the opportunity to see if he could adapt to the bogus DH position.)

Of course, I'm a shade biased for several reasons. I'm a lifetime Cowboys fan; I've never really liked the baseball Giants; I don't like players with surly attitudes; I like versatile players; and I like players who go into coaching after their playing careers. I can't see any evidence that Bonds will do such a thing.

Perhaps I'm a bit old school. I'm stuck in the '80s. I don't like the DH rule. I don't like cheap solo home runs. But I WILL say this for Bonds: I will NOT take the jump to concluding that he juiced until hard evidence comes out (i.e. a legitimate pop on a drug test).

First, let's establish the fact that I hate Barry Bonds. Let's not, however let our hatred for him (or your obvious love for Dallas) cloud judgement. Barry Bonds has more home runs than anyone else EVER in baseball. Oh, by the way, he also stole 514 bases....he also WALKED 2,558 times. He's #4 all time in total bases. #4 alltime in RBI...#2 alltime in times on base...#3 all time in runs scored and #1 by a country mile in intentional walks granted. He was, without a doubt, the most feared hitter in baseball for the better part of 10 years. I could go on and on, but you get the picture.

Danny was a nice player, but a super bowl ring does not a great player make. Remember, Trent Dilfer has one too. Danny's certainly a better ambassador for ASU, but it's not even close as to who is the better ASU alumni.
