8 more shutout innings by a starter today as Boston sweeps the Angels. 7-1 now over last 9 games for rotation. Boston is now 10-11 and heading to Baltimore for three.

Red Sox coming back to life, very surprised to see Dick-K picking it up, I thought he was pretty much done.

I've been saying all winter that the Sox staff pitching to Saltimacchia would not come anywhere close to accomplishing what they could/should.

This pitching resurgence has A LOT to do with giving Varitek more starts behind the plate. But he can't go it behind the plate as a regular at this point in this career.

The Sox needed Russell Martin, but the Yankees picked their pocket this winter. The Sox made a big splash this winter signing Crawford and getting Gonzalez (letting Beltre and Martinez go in the process). But they are still weak at the C position and will need to get a guy who can competently handle a staff while catching 70-75% of the games.

maybe they found some "2004 powder" in the locker room ;-)

oh - and yeah... the Twins are now a robust 9-12, winners of three straight... but again - I'm not tooting their horn - which is what a fan of team under .500 should do. keep their damn mouth shut until their team gets over .500

Since the Sox's 0-3 start (then extended to 0-6) resulted in comparisons by UNHW to the 1998 Yankees,I thought I'd see how the comparison was holding as of May 12.

Here are the MLB Standings as of 5/12/1998:
