Speculation on Armanti for 2011

My former boss (an ASU grad) and I were talking yesterday about AE and his potential football future - I ran across this story this morning:

The Panthers drafted three receivers last year -- including Armanti Edwards, the Appalachian State QB whom the Panthers acquired with New England's third-round pick in exchange for a second-round pick this year.

That spot is now the 33rd pick in the draft.

“We still think the player we took last year, Armanti Edwards, is going to be a very good player,” Hurney said. “And when you analyze the draft, there's so many people that take it one pick at a time. And I think what you have to do is analyze drafts in general.

“We get excited on the third day. We feel like we can get good players and have gotten players on the third day. We have two third-round picks. We think we're going to get good players there. We believe that we can find good players in every round.”

My former boss thinks AE might play in Canada or Europe and runs the risk of getting cut. It depends somewhat on the dynamics happening with Steve Smith's potential departure and the Panther's strategy for the draft. What do you think and why?

Would be more interesting for 2012 or later. There's no way he's going to be cut, traded, etc. by September. He'll be a Panther in the fall as long as there's a football season. 100% guaranteed.

Ricky Proehl was hired as an offensive consultant... as a prolific slot receiver... he could be instrumental in Armanti's transition from QB to wide receiver. He didn't have much help last year.

I don't follow European football - I guess he and and I were under the impression there was still some NFL Europe or developmental league of some sort over there.

NFL Europa disbanded in 2006 or 2007. Only reason I know is because that's where Erik Meyer was playing (and tearing it up) when it happened. :ohno:

Steve Smith has apparently already cleaned out his locker/suite at the Panthers facilities and has stated he has no intention of ever going back...

That should bode fairly well for Edwards. :coffee:

We can all thank that douchebag John Fox for putting Armanti in a no-win situation last year and then saying it was a waste of a draft pick after he was fired.

It's hard to believe such a great quarterback isn't already a starter by now. :coffee:

FYI, there are football league in Europe. My QB played over there for some team in Italy for 2-3 years before getting picked up by the CFL.
