OK, Go ahead and get your smack out of the way now....

The Sacramento Sirens got their tails handed to them last night AT HOME in their worst loss in many years. After a tough, closely fought first half, the California Quake (from Long Beach) turned on the after-burners in the second half to win going away 42-13. The Sirens OL and defensive secondary were REALLY not doing their jobs; the presence of too many rookies FINALLY made itself known. The Sirens' best LBer had finally gotten medically cleared, but it did no good as the Quake had a receiver constantly burning the secondary. The leaky OL was likely a big factor in the two interceptions thrown by Siren quarterbacks and the inability of the Sirens speedsters at the wingback positions to break free.

Due to a quirk in the schedule, the Sirens and Quake battle again next week in SoCal. Unfortunately, I cannot go. Unless the Sirens get the problems worked out to even the slate against California, the playoffs may be in jeopardy for a team that played for the title last year. I hate it when great players have to retire....

If they got beat that bad and you were there, maybe it's best that you stay home, give them a better shot at winning. :coffee:

Well, I thought for about a second, TJ, that I might be a jinx. But given how badly we beat the Utah Jynx in the second half the week before with me present, well, I'm more inclined to chalk it up to one bad game.

If you wanna talk about jinxes, though....

Just relax SH, the reason you guys lost is because your hermaphrodite RB was injured. When it comes back, you'll be bowling over the wins in no time.

Uh, no. Amy Williams, our star strong safety who occasionally played RB and was even our emergency QB the last several years, is out indefinitely with adverse reactions to a concussion sustained last year that went untreated because she didn't tell anyone about it before the playoffs started. Ashlee Sharp, our star RB who is playing defense as well to make up for Williams' absence, was not able to break free for more than one 20-yard gain because the OL wasn't doing the job. Unfortunately, Williams is likely done. That's sad because she was my favorite player.

The absence of Jennie Quan, our outstanding FB who retired, is an even bigger loss, though. She wore down defenses in the same way the '85 Bears would have had they used William Perry as a FB on a consistent basis. Quan had a nasty habit of breaking huge runs up the middle late in games because they had to deal with the RBs going outside, too. And the absence of RB Julie Shockley, who won a gold medal at last year's World Championships, who could bust huge chunks of yardage at the drop of a hat, especially on punt returns, is also a big loss.

So, the main problems are a line that's not working properly and the combined effect of key retirements and the type of play one would expect from rookies. We haven't had very much in the way of injuries sustained in 2011.

Not familiar with that one, TJ. I never really watched GI Joe. I was too busy watching Star Blazers and Battle of the Planets.

This is highly disappointing. I read the first half box score and thought they might have a chance here, but the result just didn't turn out as I'd hoped. These .... girls do some hard work out there. Next time before I place bets with my poker buddies I should read up a bit more about these teams to make sure I'm fully informed.

Nah. Never watched Jem. Did get linked by a friend to a Jem spoof called Jiz last week, though. I did like the original Josie, though.

I didn't say I liked it, TJ. I just said that a friend posted a link to it on FB. I take it you've seen it, too?
