SF Giants: Don't Look In Your Rear View Mirror....

Arizona beat the fast-fading Colorado Rockies tonight 6-3 to take 3 of 4 from the Rocks. The Diamondbacks and their collection of castoffs, misfits and rejects are now 26-24, have won 11 of 13 (following a 5 out of 6 losing streak) and more importantly lead the NL in BA with runners in scoring position and bullpen ERA in the month of May...
Whodathunk that a roster minus 50+ HR and 215+ RBI from last year, and with names like Xavier Nady, Melvin Mora, Juan Miranda, Sean Burroughs, Henry Blanco, Russell Branyan (since released), only one really proven starter, a revamped bullpen that was the worst in the league last year and a closer trying to regain his former glory would be just 1 1/2 games out of first approaching Memorial Day.
Congrats to Kirk Gibson, Kevin Towers and the AZ Diamondbacks!

God damn, if they could just trade for a stud like Lyle Overbay they'd be in the World Series come October.

Maybe they could trade for Joe Mauer and sit him on the bench since that's all he's good for.
2011: Lyle Overbay: 4 HR, 16 RBI, 1 SB, .235 BA, .298 OBP, .364 SLG, .662 OPS, $5,000,000 salary
2011: Joe Mauer, 0 HR, 4 RBI, 0 SB, .235 BA, .289 OBP, .265 SLG, .554 OPS, $23,000,000 salary
But take heart, little fella: News reports are that Mauer has begun working out!
Minnesota Twins C Joe Mauer (legs) will work out but not play...[+] in a game after playing in his first extended spring game Wednesday, May 25. 'He's progressing,' minor league field coordinator Joel Lepel said. 'He had a good day. There is no timetable. We want to get him into position to play the rest of the season. He's giving an effort. We're going to be patient and cautious.'
Bravo...he might be ready by the All-Star break...by that time the Twins, anchored down by his $23 MILLION salary, will be so fucking buried in last place with the worst record in baseball Babe Ruth himself couldn't help them.
Get used to this feeling, because it's gonna be a recurring theme until that albatross of a contract runs out in 2018.

On another note, was watching the broadcast the other day and a relief pitcher came in named Kam Mickolio who apparently hails from, of all places, Wolf Point, Montana....
Wolf Point got a shout out on the broadcast...

Arizony doesn't get to play the Twinkies again for an easy series. On the other hand, losing Posey will be tough for the Giants.

No, but they do get the Astros, Pirates, White Sox, Royals and Nationals wrapped around a couple series H/A with the Marlins and Giants....
Looks like the series of the year is going to be Diamondbacks/Indians, June 27/28/29th...Cleveland is going through the American League like a hot knife through butter....

Hey, if he was a Kevin Towers draftee I wouldn't put it past Towers....Sean Burroughs hadn't been in baseball for FIVE YEARS before Towers gave him a chance.

23,465 to be exact.

Plenty of room on the bandwagon, IT.

In first place again, 1/2 game up on San Francisco and 7 games over .500

Really hope the DBacks win the division so I get to see an ODU alum (Dan Hudson) pitch in the playoffs.

After starting the season 0-4, Hudson is 8-1 in last 9 decisions, and team is 9-2 in his starts.
He pitches tonight against KC

Hudson's back to pitching like he did LAST year when we got him...and he's just 24
This rotation could be brutal to opposing teams for years to come.
Kennedy (26) 2.90 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 8-2
Hudson (24) 3.56 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 8-5
Colmenter (25) 2.09 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, 4-3,
Saunders (30) 4.35 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, 4-7
Duke

I'd prefer Micah Owings here... (28) 3.18 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 3-0

Jerrod Parker will be a 2-3 guy in years to come
Trevor Bauer could be very good as well

That's fine. I really like Owings out of the bullpen, but he's a serviceable #5 until one of those two get here....and Saudners isn't anything to write home about either....get those two up here and we'd have all 5 starters under 27...

Yankees should have kept Kennedy.

Dbacks win 5-3 over the Royals, Hudson gets his 9th win of the season.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Daniel Hudson and the Arizona Diamondbacks found a way to continue their winning ways on Thursday night.
Hudson pitched seven strong innings to win his ninth game, and Miguel Montero and Juan Miranda each homered to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 5-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night.
"I'm sure he'll (Hudson) tell you he wasn't real happy," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. "He couldn't locate like he wanted to, but he battled through it. We didn't help him. We didn't play a very clean game at all. We got very sloppy.
"We're a confident team right now going into the dog days of summer," Hudson said. "We've got some pretty good streaks going."
Hudson (9-5), who has won his past six decisions, is tied for the National League lead in victories. He is 8-1 with a 2.78 ERA in his past 11 starts after losing his first four starts. He held the Royals to three runs and six hits, while walking one and striking out one.
"I probably had my worst command of the year," Hudson said.
