Good article on Carpenter

Post by grizzaholic »

When it comes to the pecking order in the National Football League, it doesn't get much lower than rookie free agent kickers.

Most do not last through the preseason. What time they do spend in training camp is usually as honorary water boys or on the wrong end of practical jokes, putting up with it all in the hope that somebody somewhere might notice.

NFL kicking jobs, after all, aren't easy to come by. With 32 teams and most of those positions manned by established players, breaking into the tight-knit fraternity is difficult to say the least.

But that is just the situation former Montana kicker Dan Carpenter found himself in earlier this fall after signing as an undrafted free agent with the Miami Dolphins.
