Dbacks, RedSox discuss Byrnes for Lugo swap

According to ESPN's Steve Phillips, the Red Sox and Diamondbacks are having discussions about swapping Julio Lugo for Eric Byrnes. Lugo would play second base for Arizona, while Byrnes would be Boston's fourth outfielder. Lugo has $18MM left on his deal, Byrnes $22MM with no-trade protection.

Lugo is a good player...not great...excess because of D-Pod's emergance and a strong farm system ready to provide young alternatives to the higher contract...

I never thought I'd be saying this, but here goes:
Whatever we can get to unload that contract AND fill our 2B spot would be better than paying him $22 mil to siton the bench.
