The Big South Conference has announced girls lacrosse as their 19th sport for the 2012-2013 school year, and first new one since football was added in 2002. The initial six teams involved are Campbell, CCU, High Point, Liberty, Presby, and Winthrop. Half of these schools already offer D-I LAX; the other three (Campbell, CCU, and Winthrop) plan to do so in time for the 2013 season. High Point was 15-4 last year, the best record EVER in a school's first year of competition.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
