Flyers Trade Richards and Carter, Sign Bryzgalov

Quite a few moves today for the Orange and Black:
Mike Richards to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for prized prospect Brayden Schenn, winger Wayne Simmonds and an undisclosed draft pick.
Jeff Carter to the Columbus Blue Jackets for forward Jakub Voracek, the eighth overall draft pick Friday night and a third-round draft pick from the Blue Jackets.
They also signed prized goalie Ilya Bryzgalov from Phoenix to a nine-year deal worth $51 million.
Richards' leadership was questioned late in the year. He may have lost the team. Carter was too big a cap hit. And we all know that goaltending is always a question with the Flyers, like, ever since 1987 or so. Maybe Bryzgalov will finally be the guy?

From what I saw earlier today, Carter's agent was caught by surprise as he was told just last week that trading Carter wasn't in the cards.
I guess that shows you about how far you can trust a GM to tell you the truth.

Please, there was no shock about Carter being on the table - his name was the most bandied about name out there with regards to clearing cap room to make room for the goalie. If Carter really thought he was untouchable he was just kidding himself.
As for the moves, great moves for the Flyers. They part with two guys who weren't really clutch, playoff performers, they get younger and have some real potential to have some stars in the young guys they got, and they landed a top notch goalie. Not bad work at all for one days worth of moves.

I hope you're right. If you would have told me a couple years ago that the Flyers were going to deal Gagne, Richards and Carter, I would have called you crazy.

Well, a couple years ago you didn't have Richards disappearing in clutch games in the playoffs and you didn't need Carter's salary to be cleared to allow a top flight goalie to come in. Things change. (oh, I still liked Gagne, should've kept him).
