W. Klitschko adds second major title

Post by SuperHornet »

Wladimir Klitschko beat David Haye to conolidate Haye's WBA title with his own IBF hardware (and the minor WBO/IBO belts). This gives the Klitschko Family a stranglehold on the heavyweight division, as older brother Vitali owns the WBC belt.

Anyone up for a brother-versus-brother consolidation bout?

I'd love to see the two Klitschko's battle it out, but I don't expect to see it happen.

Today's fight was kind of boring. Hayes is a major punk, talked a lot of trash and didn't even try to back it up. If he had been knocked out while trying to win I'd respect him for the effort, but instead he played it safe and went quietly. :ohno:

Agree completely, 86!

I don't remember anyone talkin' as much trash as Haye did before this fight. And now he's blaming it on a broken toe?!!?

86: One has to keep in mind that Haye had an injury. Sure, he should have tried to postpone the fight. But it IS hard to maneuver on a bum foot.

Grizomatic: There's something to be said for the injury being "minor." Especially if one compares it to Jack Youngblood playing the Super Bowl on a broken leg or Kurt Angle winning the Olympics with a broken neck. But I CAN see Haye's mobility being affected to some degree. Of course, when one has run one's mouth to the degree he did pre-fight, one would expect a bit more of an effort to fight through the injury.

Question: Does Haye get more respect than Roberto Duran after this fight?

That video cut off in the middle of the scores! Ack!!!

BTW, as far as male boxers go, Leonard is at or near the top of my list with Old Man George.

Haye didn't have an injury. That was apart of his gameplan. To flop all night and cry for the ref's help, and then make up an injury post fight after he was battered throughout. Haye is a punk.

I don't care about his "injury", he ran his mouth for weeks and completely disrespected Klitschko in the process. Then, when given the chance to back it up, he punks out and blames it on his toe. Lame.

Either cancel the fight or man up and say nothing about the toe. Using it as an excuse is pathetic.

It was on HBO, otherwise I would not have watched.

When it comes to paying money to watch boxing, it's definitely buyer beware.

Same here, BH86!

As much as love the UFC, I'm starting to be a bit more selective with the PPV's I order.

That's why on the rare occasion I order a PPV (and it's probably been over 10 years since I have), I order WWE. Even if the matchups suck, there's the storyline to balance it out. Of course, if the storyline sucks, well, then you've REALLY been ripped. And, yes, that seems to happen more and more since the mid-90s when the drama started nudging out the actual wrestling to a large degree. Yes, for pro wrestling, you need SOME drama to set up the fights. But it seems to be WAY too easy to take it WAY over the top. But at least there's a CHANCE of a good card there, something that boxing seems to have lost completely, especially (as Fact noted) in the heavyweight division.

The event was the best I've seen in a long time. Entrances and pageantry were awesome. I love watching Wlad fight, so I had no beef with the fight other than the coward that was Haye running all night and flopping. And the best color guy in sports, Larry Merchant, was on Vodka planet.

I can't remember the last time I ordered a WWE PPV...I think it was the one held at Stugis, when the NWO was goin' strong. If the current CM Punk storyline keeps up, I might hafta' get the next one. Best work/shoot drama in a long time!
