I think Jeter is this generations Pete Rose. They are both great competitors who make plays that most other players wouldn't make.

However,

I don't think Rose was the greatest player of his generation and I don't think Jeter is the greatest player fo this generation. For one, I would rank Pujols ahead of Jeter.

It's hard to say Arod is better than Jeter because Arod has the steroids taint on his career -- although it seems at this time that the public has given him a pass.

It's funny how some guys with steroid taint (Palmiero, McGwire, Ramirez) have essentially had every thing they accomplished thrown out the door; while other guys with a steroid taint (Arod, David Oritz) have been given a pass.

Of course, Arod and Ortiz 'fessed up without incident with reports surfaced about their use. So if you come clean, you get the pass perhaps.

Look at Andy Pettitte/Roger Clemens. I recently read an article saying Pettitte should get a close look by the Hall voters. But Clemens may never get in, the way things stand.

If you don't think Jeter is one of the ten 10 best of this generation, you have no idea about baseball. I think the names being tossed around here (as hitters) are on the money: Griffey, Jones, Jeter, Ichiro, Pujols. And all kidding aside, Griffey is probably No. 1 and, if Pujols stay clean, he's No. 2 (I've always had a bad feeling about him). Then Jeter, Jones, Ichiro, Frank Thomas.

A player that often gets overlooked is Miguel Cabrera who is half way to 3000 hits and 500 home runs at age 28. He is often on the leader board in Avg, HR and RBI's, and already has a ring with Florida, his rookie season. He has a different drug problem, if he doesn't drink himself out of the game, he should have some great numbers in the end.
