How many other players had over 200 hits in each of their first 10 season in the Majors, or even 10 consecutive years of 200 hits. Ichiro already has over 3000 hits if you combine his Japanese stats.DJH wrote:No Ichiro.Gil Dobie wrote:Griffey Jr

He's not even the best SS. A-Rod was and probably still is a better SSJoltinJoe wrote:Derek Jeter.

I think fans know even without solid evidence that most players in the past 15 to 20 years atleast have cheated and are willing to forgive those who as you put it 'fessed up'.JoltinJoe wrote:It's hard to say Arod is better than Jeter because Arod has the steroids taint on his career -- although it seems at this time that the public has given him a pass.
It's funny how some guys with steroid taint (Palmiero, McGwire, Ramirez) have essentially had every thing they accomplished thrown out the door; while other guys with a steroid taint (Arod, David Oritz) have been given a pass.
Of course, Arod and Ortiz 'fessed up without incident with reports surfaced about their use. So if you come clean, you get the pass perhaps.
Look at Andy Pettitte/Roger Clemens. I recently read an article saying Pettitte should get a close look by the Hall voters. But Clemens may never get in, the way things stand.
Or is it that many fans recognize that that Arod and Ortiz have never failed a drug test other than that "confidential" test, the results of which were never supposed to be made public, and think it's unfair that their names were selectively leaked to the media?UNHWildCats wrote:I think fans know even without solid evidence that most players in the past 15 to 20 years atleast have cheated and are willing to forgive those who as you put it 'fessed up'.JoltinJoe wrote:It's hard to say Arod is better than Jeter because Arod has the steroids taint on his career -- although it seems at this time that the public has given him a pass.

Are we talking "Greatest Baseball Player of this Generation" or "Best Singles Hitter of this Generation"?JoltinJoe wrote:Derek Jeter.

when reading threads by Joe, you gotta wear the Yankee glasses to see it, much like you need to wear Red Sox glasses for my threads.free7694 wrote:Are we talking "Greatest Baseball Player of this Generation" or "Best Singles Hitter of this Generation"?JoltinJoe wrote:Derek Jeter.

If it's the former, Jeter's not even in the top 10, if it's the latter, I'm still not sure he beats out Ichiro or Tony Gwynn.
If you don't think Jeter is one of the ten 10 best of this generation, you have no idea about baseball. I think the names being tossed around here (as hitters) are on the money: Griffey, Jones, Jeter, Ichiro, Pujols. And all kidding aside, Griffey is probably No. 1 and, if Pujols stay clean, he's No. 2 (I've always had a bad feeling about him). Then Jeter, Jones, Ichiro, Frank Thomas.free7694 wrote:Are we talking "Greatest Baseball Player of this Generation" or "Best Singles Hitter of this Generation"?JoltinJoe wrote:Derek Jeter.
