Following Derek Jeter's HR for his 3,000th hit the fan he caught the ball turned it over to Yankee personnel without so much as asking for a thning in return.
"No, not really," Lopez said when Yankees announcer Michael Kay later asked him if he asked for anything in return. "He deserves this, he's worked hard for this ... I'm not the type of person to take this away from him."
The Yankees however did later reward the fan.
According to Kay, Lopez will receive four tickets to a suite for every remaining game at Yankee Stadium this season (including any possible playoff games) plus first row Legends Suite tickets to Sunday's game. He will also receive an assortment of bats and jerseys, plus the opportunity to meet Jeter.

Yea, but I have to admit if I caught the ball, it would be up at auction at Sotheby's unless Jeter wanted to make a monetary offer I could not refuse. What this fan did was classy, I guess, but that ball is my kids' college fund.

Don't be a pussy...you would have done the same fucking thing as JJ....only difference being, you would probably spend most of it paying off debts.

The guy could have made a fortune on it, but wanted Derek to have it. Good move and he was compensated well for it.

There is literally no difference between the Red Sox and Yankees anymore. They do things the same way.

It's not greed. My number one priority in life is take care of my family. If a ball drops in my lap that will pay for my kids to go to college, it would be wrong and stupid for me to give it away to some guy who is worth probably $200 Million. They said that ball at auction was worth $500,000. Jeter can afford to send my kids to college, believe me. He wouldn't even miss the money.

But it is what a NY bankruptcy lawyer would do!

This guy is a fucking idiot. Jeter's 3000 hit AND it was a homerun. He just handed a fortune to a multi-millionaire.

I'd have done the same thing... and been damn happy with the 4 tickets and memorabilia. The bullshit of selling the ball is just sad.

I would have sold the ball. Someday you will you start laying awake at night worrying about what college is going to cost for two kids in the future, and you'll understand what I mean. I'd be happy to sell the ball to Jeter. He can afford to send my kids to college, and maybe I will sleep better at night.
