Another Generaltional Debate

There's probably no decent answer to this because people tend to vote by age (though there ARE exceptions).

What I wanna know is this: who's the better bearded closer? Brian Wilson or Bruce Sutter? I know I was scared just to turn on the tube when Sutter was in the game (of course, ANYTHING with a beard this side of Dan Fouts is scary to a grade-schooler). But Wilson doesn't seem all that scary to me. Is it just that I'm older, too? Or is Sutter really better than Wilson? Maybe it's just age-related amnesia, but I don't seem to remember Sutter blowing all that many saves. Blown saves seems to be more of a recent trend.

Thanks.

I think Sutter was tougher, but Wilson's career isn't over yet.

I never really feared men with beards when I was a kid. Did someone with a beard diddle you?

I'll go with Sutter. Hated it when he was brought in against the Phillies. His splitter was fantastic. Glad to say I got to see him pitch on many an occasion.

And now he works with the Phillies organization :thumb:

Eckersley never really had the beard thing going on. He was more of a mustache guy, almost like Rollie Fingers.

Not scary like Sutter for me. A guy who was almost guaranteed to get the job done, yes. But not a guy who was monster-scary like Sutter. Of course, Sutter's fastball and splitter (thank you CatMom for reminding me about that) may have something to do with that.
