He's hit two HR tonight, both absolute bombs. The first one was in the 4th inning on the first pitch AFTER being denied a timeout by the home plate ump. He muttered under his breath all the way around the bases after hitting a 430 footer to dead center. The second one was absolutely CRUSHED into the third deck of the Western Metal Supply Co. building (which sits in left field of Petco Park) and comes after hitting one last night as well and being named player of the week last week. He's got 15 RBI, 5 HR's and is hitting 17 for his last 29, or a mere .586 clip since the 19th of July...

Update: With his 3-run double tonight Upton has extended his hitting streak to 11 games, in which he's got 6 HR's, 19 RBI, scored 12 runs, stole two bases and gone 21 for his last 41.

For DJH: That's more RBI, HR, SB than Mr. Mauer has THIS ENTIRE SEASON (in 174 AB in 49 games played).

So, given the choice, do you watch THIS Upton or the OTHER one?

In contrast, DJH's mancrush Joe Mauer is 1/4/6 and has gone 16/52 in that same timeframe...and his team has gone 6-8.

Upton is back on another hot streak.

After his 14 game streak ended on August 2nd, Upton went through (what for him amounts to) a mini-slump...going 2-17 in a 5 game stretch (in which the D-Backs went 1-4), but since the 9th he's gone 13-24 (.541 clip) with 3 HR's, 7 RBI, 8 runs scored, and 2 stolen bases. His OBP is .364 and his OPS is a staggering 1.037.

Coincidentally, the D-Backs are 6-0 in those six games.

He might be good.
