Pedroia Sets Off Ortiz

About a week ago, David Ortiz got a hit that scored two runs, initially and correctly he was credited with two RBI, the following day the official scorer changed the scoring and took away his RBI for the second run saying Ortiz didn't earn the RBI because the base runner ran through a stop sign by the third base coach (huh).

Now in the aftermath in the Boston media Ortiz has been crucified for his reaction when he found out. He stormed into Terry Francona's office and went off about it... Now normally that is a proper way for a player to complain about a scoring disagreement, sure beats Ortiz going upstairs and holding the scorer outside the pressbox window by his feet.

The problem? When Ortiz stormed into Francona's office complaining he didn't notice the large group of reporters there doing the daily press briefing with Francona, or perhaps he just didn't care.

So in the days afterword, Ortiz has been slammed by the Boston media for his reaction... rightfully so perhaps.

So how is Pedroia involved in all this? Moments before Ortiz stored the office, Pedroia asked him if he heard what happened. Pedroia went on to tell him that Theo Epstein and John Henry went to the scorer and asked them to change the scoring to help reduce, even if ever so slightly Ortiz's value this coming off-season. Pedroia being Pedroia was full of shit, Ortiz didn't catch on and was livid.

Meantime Ortiz looks like an ass and the rest of the team is laughing their asses off... Let's hope Ortiz comes around and takes it for the humor intended and doesn't use it as a reason to walk away at seasons end.

And let's hope the media lightens up a bit now, because regardless of whether Ortiz should have known it was a joke, the reason behind his outburst is a bit more understandable now.
