Mexico v USA Friendly

Anyone watch this? Pretty good last 30 minutes by the USA. Would have been a win if not for some very shoddy officiating.

Recap: MLS youngsters spark US draw with Mexico

Shea, Rogers connect to lead Americans back from early deficit

PHILADELPHIA – A second-half spark from a trio of Major League Soccer youngsters saved the debut of new US head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, as the Americans rallied from an early deficit to earn a 1-1 draw against continental rival Mexico in an international friendly at Lincoln Financial Field.

Columbus Crew midfielder Robbie Rogers scored the equalizer just a minute after his substitution into the game and FC Dallas winger Brek Shea picked up the assist not long after he replaced Jermaine Jones, helping erase a brilliant strike from Mexico’s Oribe Peralta in the 17th minute.

US NATIONAL TEAM ASSISTANT COACHES?

Juergen Klinsmann has unveiled his support staff for the U.S. national team friendly against Mexico on Wednesday in Philadelphia. He plans to shuttle assistants in and out for several months before settling on a full-time crew. For this match, he invited:

Martin Vasquez
former Chivas USA head coach who assisted Klinsmann at Bayern Munich and now oversees Real Salt Lake’s development academy in Arizona.

Thomas Dooley
a German-American, former U.S. captain and Hall of Famer.

Tab Ramos
one of the most accomplished players in U.S. history, now working with U.S. junior teams.

Mike Curry
a goalkeepers coach with 37 years of experience.

Mark Verstegen
owner of Athletes’ Performance conditioning center who prepared Germany’s squad for the 2006 World Cup.

Well, with THAT staff, if there's an injury problem, two of them could suit up.

Welcome to the big time Brek Shea. What an unbelievable 30 minutes for the young man. He and Agudelo are 2 bright spots in a otherwise grim looking youth system.

Was not impressed yet again with Jones or Castillo...

Our back line could be an issue for years to come. With Boca and Cherundolo both on the wrong side of 30, we need to find someone fast for 2014

Agudelo looked great last night - was dangerous on almost every touch. Was impressed with the movement in the second half as well for the US - actually looked crisp and inventive out there, very un-USA like.

I agree that the defense is a major concern - just when we finally seem to be getting better in the midfield and upfront we've lost the ability to get good defensemen.

Isn't Mexico the USA's "buggest rival"?? Announced crowd of 30K..... :coffee:

In the same stadium, in a city that doesn't notice college football, with two schools that have literally no football fanbase, Temple & Villanova drew 32K last season... :ohno:

How many would Temple and Villanova draw for a preseason scrimmage?

Mexico - US in the Gold Cup final drew 93,420 in June.

Where was that game and what was the Mexican percentage of the crowd???? Look even at the MLS numbers, soccer is West Coast biased at this level......

Cowboys Stadium and New Meadowlands Stadium also sold out for the Gold Cup. Is New Jersey East Coast enough for you?

Cmon - whites have been a minority in NYC for decades, when's the last time you've been to Times Square?? The Philly area is pretty low compared to most cities interms of Latino population & it showed last night. Are those Red Bulls or whatever the North Jersey MLS team is called pulling in impressive attendance #'s? You really went with Cowboys Stadium? Located in what used to actually be Mexico?? The Phillies draw 15K more for every game than that soccer game across the street drew last night to a less-than-half full Linc. The number would be higher than 15k too, but there's nowhere else to put people....

What the fuck does race have to do with it?

We should only tally attendance of white people? :?

Well, technically you're right in terms of overall attendance, but let's be honest, NASCAR attendance is down everywhere the last few years - Dover for example was around 120K now does like 85K. Football still is the leader in terms of % of seats filled..

Maybe I should have said legal U.S. citizens versus white people, there is that better?

And what percentage of the 93k at the Rose Bowl were illegals?

You know we have a large number of legal Mexican immigrants, right? Just because they have brown skin or speak broken english doesn't mean they're illegal. :ohno:

Eh, you have to take it easy with BHBK - he's got this weird schtick when it comes to soccer. He can't understand why anyone anywhere watches or plays it. It really freaks him out that it's still around.

Uh, Philadelphia Union continue to play to sell out crowds at 18.5k PPL park, and 32k people for an exhibition game last night is still 32k people. And it was only a few weeks ago that 57k people came to the Linc to see the Union play Real Madrid. I haven't seen the Sixers actual attendance but I'm pretty sure the Union have a better season average than they do and throwing in the games at the Linc and the Union start to have a better average than even the Flyers. That would put them close to the 3rd most watched sports team in Philly. Apparently quite a lot of people in Philly are into it.

People say we can't deport all illegal mexicans, which I disagree with but ok, but can we please get rid of those that think they are cowboys? They really annoy me.

Yep. While still far behind Europe, the quality of MLS continues to improve every year. And, more and more Americans are realizing its value as a way to beat the summer baseball doldrums.
