Billings, MT advances in LLWS

Even though it is the largest city population-wise in the state of Montana, on a national sports level Billings is usually overlooked by the happenings in both Bozeman and Missoula. Lately, however, Griz fans and Cat fans who call Billings home have stood united in support of their local Little League baseball team who have won their first two games in the World Series in Williamsport, PA. They will next play California on Wednesday for the right to continue on.
Go Billings!!!

Don't forget that they beat Oregon to get there in the first place, Jal.

MT beat LA on national TV and looked rather dominant in doing so.
Good job, guys!

With former Billings resident Brent Musburger calling the action, Billings beat Huntington Beach, CA, 1-0 on a home run in the 7th inning. They advance to the American side of the finals on Saturday.
Go Billings!

Normally, I abhor solo jobs. But in the 7th inning of a WS game (equiv to 9th in MLB), that's as good as a walk-off. Great job, guys!

I'm still rooting for the PA team to go to the game on Sunday (heck, they could get 70k+ if that happens) just for the crowd and for the fact that I live in PA, but if someone else had to go I'd rather it be the Montana team - I'm tired of California teams always being the ones to win the LLWS (or at least get to the title game).

That was a silly game. First run HB gave up in 3+ games and Billings got out of jam after jam in that game. Looked a lot like the South Carolina/Virginia game this summer.

Rematch with Californie tomorrow. Will probably tough to beat them two games in a row, but we'll see how it goes.

And it is a bunch of crap that they don't have to beat the Billings team twice. Geed luck Montana, the whole state is behind you.

Yeah, I've never been a big fan of the format they use for this.

The format is in it's infancy...and I don't like it. Facing a team for a second time in an elimation format...if I were a betting man I'd bet on California. Ridiculous that teams can play twice in a tournament. Anyway...this has been an absolute joy to watch. Keystone (Lock Haven/Clinton County, PA) is now out of it, but represents the first school I went to (Lock Haven) and the state I grew up in. Big Sky represents the past four years and immediate future, one of my roommates even being a former Big Sky LL All Star. So Cal...well that's the next chapter of my life.
The International Bracket can kiss my ass.

If I remember correctly, in that pitching duel that California and Billings had on Wednesday, the California team pulled their pitcher before the pitch count and therefore he can pitch today. I think the Billings pitcher from that game exceeded the pitch count and cannot pitch today.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.

The Billings kids got smoked by California, 11-2. Dream season is over.

True but California should have to beat them again. And then they cancelled the game between Montana and Mexico...they got screwed.

Any rationale for that? To the best of my knowledge, there's always been a third-place game.
I just checked the bracket. You guys are right. My question was whether or not it was a double-elimination tournament or pool play followed by a single-elimination medal round like World Cup. Yup. It was double-elimination except for that last Billings-HB game. Complete shaft job in my book.
Make it a TRUE double-elimination to determine USA and International champs as in the past. Then have the two champs face off in a best-of-three for the world title. That seems the fairest way to run it to me.

Who said they had to play it on Saturday? Why not evacuate everyone inland for a few days, then bring them back for the game early next week?

You pickin' up that tab? Do you have ANY IDEA how much money these parents/coaches have already put out for these tournament runs? My buddy's kid was on the Chandler National team from here that made it to the semi's 4-5 years ago....he spent over $8000 HIMSELF between the state tourney, regional tourney, and the LLWS just for him and his kid for travel, hotel, etc. etc. This shit ain't free, SH.

If it absolutely had to be the homefront covering it, that would be an appropriate response. But with as much as the national organization gets in licensing fees from the local leagues, one would think that they could foot the bill for an emergency.
