Peter King now reporting that Tim Tebow will be either cut or traded by the Broncos...what a waste of a 1st round pick!

Somebody will pick him up - it is a bit funny after watching everybody fawn all over him the past few years. He'll probably end up on the trash heap of former Heismann NFLers like Matt Leinart.

Maybe he can get a tryout on Superhorney's girls team.

Not that he would even stand a chance given the reports we have seen on these Sirens.

Never draft a Florida QB. Sexy Rexy is probably their most successful QB.

they might need a draw, but they have actual QBs, could be Matt Jones #2 for them. Minus the coke, I guess.............

FWIW, there's NO indication of this coming out of Denver yet, either on the team site or with the paper.

Denver HAS announced Kyle Orton as the starter for Week 1, but has NOT announced a backup. Under new league rules, they don't have to. Therefore, speculation between Tebow and Cleveland washout Brady Quinn can continue ad infinitum for all Denver cares.

Tebow's going to be fine with an NFL offense that lets him take advantage of his speed and size, and uses them as assets.

The debate over Tebow reminds me of how the experts all said Doug Flutie wouldn't succeed in the NFL. Of course, then Flutie went to Canada, was a multiple MVP, won multiple Gray Cups, came back to the NFL, made the Pro Bowl, turned around a losing situation in Buffalo, made the playoffs, and then was ousted because the experts said Rob Johnson was better. Of course Johnson then immediately lost the playoff game after Flutie got them there and then, the next season, Johnson turned a winning team in Buffalo into a loser.

I stood next to Doug Flutie at a McDonalds in Orlando when he played in the USFL for the Orlando team. Dude was TINY. Absolutely amazing he could suit up for an NFL team.

It's not unprecedented, AZ. The first QB in Cowboys history was Eddie LeBaron, who came in via the expansion draft from Washington. He had a stellar career at COP (now UOP), including an undefeated season and a New Year's bowl game. He was all of 5'9".

Also of note would be Pat Haden, who was about the same height, who took the Rams to the playoffs before getting shelved. Vince Ferragamo took them the rest of the way before losing to the Steel Curtain.

Too many people are enamored of QB height. Case in point: Mark McGwire's brother was 6'6" and therefore considered a "can't miss." He missed by a mile. It's the OL's job to create passing lanes, regardless of QB height. For short QBs, roll-outs and bootlegs are also fairly effective. Hiding the QB under the line is also great for misdirection running plays. When you have a short QB, you just have to think outside the box a bit. What a QB has upstairs is MUCH more important than how tall he is (or isn't).

Unless your QB can't see over the OL. This rolling the QB out of the pocket nonsense is quickly negated when a safety or corner spy him, blitz him, and knock him to next Tuesday. There's a reason why small quarterbacks are very rare and taller QBs are much preferred.

Your second paragraph is exactly why Tebow won't be fine in the NFL. Minds have already been made up. I'm not sure he can play, but even if he can, I don't think he'll get the chance.

Your revisionist history is amazing. First off Haden was 5'11", not 5'9". Second, Haden wasn't "shelved", he broke his finger and Ferragamo was forced into action and led the Rams to the '80 Super Bowl.

Now Hayden WAS benched in '80 and Ferragamo took over for him then.

By "shelved," I thought I clearly meant the IR, not a benching.

Two inches below the 6' mark is hardly relevant when most people seem to think that 6'2"-6'4" is an absolute minimum.

... and the pile on keeps coming. Tebow considered 4th on the depth chart
“If everything was totally equal, and this were a competition based only on performance at this camp, Tebow would probably be the fourth-string guy,” one source told Silver. “Kyle [Orton] is far and away the best, and Tebow’s way behind [Brady] Quinn, too. And I’m telling you, Adam Weber is flat-out better right now.”

Weber, an undrafted rookie, has no chance to actually pass Tebow on the depth chart. But Weber has looked impressive when given the chance, and Tebow is struggling to work under center or grasp a pro offense.

One Broncos executive says to, “Forget about how [Tebow] delivers the ball, or how accurate it is. First he has to know where to go with it.”

......

Silver confirms the Broncos were willing to trade Kyle Orton to the Dolphins for a third-round pick in late July. Receiver Brandon Lloyd called it a “relief” when Orton stayed put.

“Sometimes the best things that happen to you in life are the things that don’t happen,” one high-ranking official told Silver.

Can someone explain all this hatred for Tebow? I’m indifferent, but I certainly don’t understand all of this. He’s not a thug. He’s always been a winner on the field. He’s a leader. He’s not the best in the game, but he’s certainly trying and willing to do what it takes to improve his game. I really don’t understand. It’s not as if he got caught drunk driving or raping some fat chick. What gives?
