The Cincinnati Reds have announced 17 Sep as Johnny Bench Night. There will be a Bench exhibit and the unveiling of a Bench statue.
If you're anywhere near Cincinnati, you HAVE to be there. If you have access to a sattelite, this is MUST SEE TV. I wish I did. This is my favorite baseball player of all time. When possible, I still wear #5 for softball in his honor.

Maybe I am missing something here, but it doesn't sound all that exciting.
I get that there a lot of benches out there and some of them might be unusual and neat, but I am not sure that this will bring the hoards of folks to the baseball game. Maybe it is just me.

I remember Johnny Bench more for the Krylon paint commercials where he'd end by saying "no runs, drips, or errors!"

When the Phils were out there this week the announcing crew made note of the 14-bat salute to Pete Rose at Great American Ball Park. Very cool that even if they're not allowed to honor the Hit King by name that they still have that going on - classy.
