78 AB's in August, but he didn't play last night.

It's gonna be REAL tough for him not to get to 130. :twocents:

yeah...kinda sucks but I guess he isn't concerned with it.

IMO - Let him play every day. Getting Overby was a waste.

ABs after September 1st when rosters expand do not count toward rookie eligibility. So he will have his rookie status next season and should top most peoples pre season ROY list.

You got a link to that theory? If you're referring to this, I think you're misreading it.
The official MLB blurb:
Determining rookie status:
A player shall be considered a rookie unless, during a previous season or seasons, he has (a) exceeded 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues; or (b) accumulated more than 45 days on the active roster of a Major League club or clubs during the period of 25-player limit (excluding time in the military service and time on the disabled list).

Right with what you posted. section b. the 25 -player limit ends at midnight on September 1 when any player on a teams 40 man roster can be on the active roster.

I'm fully aware of when rosters expand. But those two parts (a) and (b) are mutually exclusive. Either (a) he has not exceeded 130 AB's or 50 IP, OR (b) accumulated more than 45 days prior to the rosters being expanded. The "during the period of 25-player limit" portion does NOT apply to part (a) of the equation.

At least that's the way I've always interpreted it.
