Impressive performance, but his rookie record now has an asterisk.

An interception he threw was called back by a roughing the passer penalty - was deemed a legal hit by the NFL today, meaning the interception should have stood, and Newton should not have had the opportunity to continue the drive that ended in a TD pass to Steve Smith.

At the time, the penalty looked bogus - a shoulder pad to shoulder pad hit. Now confirmed.

Well, coach Ken Whisenhunt was looking for clarification on the penalty flag thrown on cornerback Richard Marshall — the one play in which Marshall was called for unnecessary roughness when he hit quarterback Cam Newton shoulder-to-shoulder, forcing a throw that linebacker Daryl Washington intercepted. Not only did the Cards lose the turnover, but a couple plays later, Newton threw a touchdown pass to Steve Smith for a 14-7 halftime lead.

Marshall got the clarification. “NFL looked at my hit on cam newton from Sundays game and said it was legal. Happy to say I’m not getting fined, thanks” Marshall tweeted

at least it's no big deal for him to get paid. Unlike Bo Jackson, Cam got a raise when he went to the NFL.

He's no Armanti Edwards, but seemed to have a good debut. 8-)

Your kidding right he set a NFL rookie mark for passing yds in his debut smashing a mark that stood for 5 DECADES!!!!!!!! Only Brady had a better performance with his pr of 517 vs Miami

Cam has looked good with some impressive stats for a rookie QB. He also has made many rookie mistakes. Once he settles down and gets some more experience, he will be a force.

432 against GB but 3 INTs...and of course the media wants to tear him down for it. Some are still saying that they should of stuck with Clausen...smh

Guy should have about 8 INT's already. Two called back another couple dropped.
