Toledo wants Syracuse to vacate "win"
Toledo wants Syracuse's 33-30 overtime win against the Rockets to be vacated after a Big East Conference official acknowledged that replay officials wrongly awarded an extra point for a kick that was no good.
Toledo athletic director Mike O'Brien says he has asked the Mid-American Conference commissioner to request that the Big East give Toledo the victory.
Toledo made a field goal to force overtime Saturday, but the Orange came back with a field goal to win. The Rockets are upset because video showed Syracuse narrowly missed an extra-point attempt after an earlier touchdown. Officials who reviewed the kick let the extra point stand.

One of the biggest screw jobs I have ever seen. Toledo won the game, fair and square. Big East officials gave the game to Suckacuse.

I would have to say, give Toledo the game. They earned it in 60 minutes.

and it's not like it altered the strategy of the game either, like if a TD or FG was messed up by the officials. It's an untimed down, with no repercussions other than putting an extra point or 2 on the board. Toledo would have tried to drive the field anyway and score at least a FG. Syracuse's defensive strategy was stop them then too, I really just don't see the harm in taking the points off the board and giving it to Toledo, they earned it

Human judgement, and thus human error, is part of the game. The Big East should fire the review officials, but I'll be neither happy nor upset based on what Syracuse does (which I'm gonna assume is keep the win). While I feel bad that Toledo got screwed, it's not really Syracuse's fault.

There shouldn't be human error in something as obvious as that....especially when replay was created to get rid of human error.∞∞∞ wrote:Human judgement, and thus human error, is part of the game. So, was this worse than the Toronto Screw Job?dbackjon wrote:One of the biggest screw jobs I have ever seen. Toledo won the game, fair and square. Big East officials gave the game to Suckacuse.

If they didn't reverse the Mizzou/Colorado 5th down game, why would they reverse this?

That was a bit different, the opposing team still had to snap the ball to end the game. Strategically and gameplay wouldn't have changed at all in this casebluehenbillk wrote:If they didn't reverse the Mizzou/Colorado 5th down game, why would they reverse this?

Re: Toledo wants Syracuse to vacate
Who's to tell if it would've been different? Didn't Toledo have to kick a FG to force overtime after this happened? Would the kicker have been more stressed about kicking a game winning FG as opposed to a game tying one? Would the coach's have called different plays, on both sides of the ball, knowing that a FG would win the game rather than just tie it?dgreenwell3 wrote:That was a bit different, the opposing team still had to snap the ball to end the game. I'm always skeptical about using replay for kicks anyway - where was the camera - was there one on each upright looking up or was it in the middle? Sometimes that angle of the one from the middle is misleading. I didn't see the game so I don't know, just asking.
